It depends on your price, nw and ne Springfield will be the least expensive, and are the “sketchiest” but they are getting safer because first time home buyers are buying the houses that are being renovated really rapidly. It’s really not dangerous here except for on the streets. There are a lot of homeless people and you might get your bike lifted if you have a cheap lock but that’s it honestly, there aren’t gangs in Springfield.

Nicer places are around the south side of msu campus, to the east of it around cherry street is nice too, and then there are cookie cutter neighborhoods on south side, and they’re more expensive

Generally, avoid the northwest side and areas in or near downtown.

Though crime is high in the area, it is mostly domestic violence, drug, and gang related, which eans it is not that likely to affect a regular person unless you are involved personally.

There are several areas outside the concentrated city space that are good value homes, and suburbs like republic are options if you are willing to commute.

Note that the housing market is still a bit crazy.

You want domestic violence, you want the SE side of town.

I always laugh when I hear people arguing over where is the safest. We live in a small town masquerading as a city. It's fine.

There are gangs, small time groups that seem to be responsible for a lot of the shootings at gas stations and drivebys over the last year.
