The temps are far too low for any salt/brine substances to be put onto the roads. They just won’t work. All they have are the plows at these temps. Side neighborhoods aren’t a priority. Interstates, highways, and major roadways get the focus first and foremost.
I get it though, I met a snow plow on a state highway and he was plowing the very edge of the outer roadway, less than a foot, and the rest was clear. All he was doing was throwing shit at my windshield when we passed each other.
I weep for you. Please write again when the sun comes out and allows you escape.
actually in jeff city rn so got out just fine nerd
We got like 3 inches of snow. Maybe. If you can't drive on the road, then it's your own fault. Not the lack of plows.
It’s not about being able to drive. It’s the fact our major roads look like the Oregon Trail pathway while highway and major county roads are cleaned and clear.
This factually correct comment should not be controversial, let alone sitting at -1.
What is going on in this sub?
3 inches is certainly drivable but still more than enough for cars to be sliding around.
The major roads were awfully plowed (Kansas, National), and honestly didn't even look like they had been touched at 4 pm. Only the highways were cleared well.
Several of the major roads in town are often mistaken as being the responsibility of the city. Kansas Exp & Glenstone for example are handled by MoDOT because they are maintained by the state. If I remember correctly Sunshine is as well.
I can only assume that the problem is exacerbated by lack of public works funding from the state, considering Springfield is only paying $14.50 for a job that usually requires you to work in freezing temperatures, while driving in dangerous conditions. To me it makes sense why there is a lack of workers
If you know how to drive in these conditions, there should be very few instances where you slide. Regardless of the type of vehicle you're in.
it’s not that i don’t know how to drive i just am saying it’s pretty ridiculous for a snowplow to drive through my neighborhood without the thing down, you’re already driving over here, just do a pass my man
Might not have been on the clock anymore and was going home.
i would pave my roads on my way home lol
I agree this town sucks at being proactive about snowy conditions. They are definitely reactive and often too late.

Yeah.. this is why I moved from springfield to KC - Springfield sucks tbh. 💀
100%
Yeah it amazes me. I’m from WI and every year I’m like they will do better. But they don’t. Like pre salt the streets or use beet juice or nothing. It’s just poorly managed
You're forgetting one VERY IMPORTANT FACT!!!!
SALT🧂🧂🧂DOES NOT⛔🚫⛔🚫 WORK WHEN IT'S TOO 🧊🥶🥶⛄❄️🥶😰🌨️ COLD OUTSIDE!!!?!!!?;;!;!
Please repeat this information ad nauseum anytime anyone mentions anything having to do with winter road conditions.
It’s funny because I’ve been out and about and most businesses that have salted the walk and parking lots. It’s worked.
But yes it could possibly be too cold for salt to work at sometimes.
The city is usually hiring - if you think you could do better? Or, you can just cry on the internet to a group of strangers who couldn't care less what you think? Your call.
i mean you commented so you cared enough
No no, you don't understand. You just need to git gud, because salt doesn't work when it's too cold. I know you didn't mention salt, but salt does not work when it's too cold. Apparently snowplows also turn to jelly when it's this cold I guess, I don't know.
But definitely remember to git gud because the city doesn't need to plow, you just need to drive better on snow. In fact, snow doesn't exist. You're hallucinating, it never snowed. It's fine.
To sum up, SALT DOES NOT WORK WHEN IT'S TOO COLD. Also git gud, and there's no snow. See your doctor. And get some salt for fuck sake. Good luck. Cool.
lmao what
There was a similar thread earlier and I'm poking fun at the answers from that one.
Edit: And a couple of the comments here, looks like.
Stay safe!
lmao have a good one maye
Jesus. They even downvoted you for telling me to have a good one.
that’s what i’m sayin lol getting butthurt because their town is full of meth heads and mega churches
Obviously you just need to be able to afford a better car with AWD and snow tires. /s

There are three plows in the area…., MODOT, Greene County Highway Department and SGF Public Works. Each have their respective areas of coverage.
First I am thankful of our public works drivers and their work. However their leadership at public works is failing the city drivers.
Whomever is running the program with the city needs to take a lesson from MODot.
Also I understand side streets are not a priority but our major streets could be in far better shape.
