This asshole made a group on FB that bullies and belittles people around Springfield,Mo like the homeless. This group encourages people to video record and take pictures of people around town. Mike Hickman stalk and harasses people and also encourages people in his group to do the same. I'm surprised someone hasn't showed up to Missouri Mikes and done something to him already, I wouldn't doubt if he bullies and belittles his costumers too. I wouldn't want to eat somewhere that'll promote doxxing people on the internet for "fun".

That's the dude who made WTF Springfield?! I already knew he was an asshole, but goddamn.

Edit: it seems he didn't create the group, but nevertheless is an admin and has a reputation in there.

He’s a complete piece of work. The Springfield area Facebook restaurant groups used to be nice places to get recommendations until he showed up and started spamming every post recommending his own places. (Sometimes regardless of the type of food being requested.) But yeah. There are several closed groups that encourage harassment, doxxing and even violence against Springfield residents. Queen City Watchdog is one (Edit to add that it’s owner, J. Michael Hasty is running for school board) and there’s another ostensibly about SPS issues that I forget the name of.

It really sucks because Facebook groups provide some privacy for things like support groups and affinity spaces, but they also provide places for bullies to hide and organize. The only way to get toxic groups shut down is to infiltrate and report them. But that leads to the same behavior in return. It’s why a lot of LGBTQ+ and other marginalized people are migrating to Discord.

Literally the only thing we can do is make note of who runs these groups and who belongs to them so that the police can be involved if something happens. Although, from personal experience I can tell you that SPD doesn’t really give a shit about “personal” issues like doxxing and property being vandalized, even if it is organized on social media.

I saw that group and thought it might be funny. Joined. Within about a week I started to realize “ohhhh, this is mostly a bunch of conservatives and boomers shitting on the less fortunate, with just a smattering of actually funny stuff here and there.”

I’m still in it, but I really should leave.

Crosstown BBQ is the best spot to go in springfield. Smokin Bob's is good too. I've been disappointed all 3 times I've eaten at Missouri Mikes.

Yeah, I was going to say that they tend to run a positive magazine. I wonder if a letter to the editor to the two papers might be effective — maybe not specifically calling out his name but holding people accountable for local toxic Fb groups and just implying it’s him or a local business owner and let people figure it out.

Mike also got a very healthy PPE loan. I screenshot it and posted it when he was crying about student loan payoffs

Yeah, it’s basically all an advertisement. I get a subscription every couple years, but there’s maybe 1/4 of the magazine that’s actually of interest and the rest is ads in various forms. Then they do “417 Home” which is recycled content from the main magazine and “design awards” that always go to the same small handful of designers. A few issues in and I remember why I don’t bother to renew my subscription.

I would like to add that Google & Facebook reviews are actually really impactful... It's pretty easy to leave a review explaining his callousness.

EDIT: Also, it's not just that group. A lot of Springfield Facebook groups are just as toxic. I often see commenters make fun of people without homes and say jaywalkers deserve to be hit/locked up.

He acts like such a dick online. I can tell by that alone he’s the type of person that I want zero association with. Also ate at his Battlefield location before I saw how he treated other humans and it was mediocre food with bad service

Google reviews are helpful until Mike Hickman calls out the person in the Eat Springfield MO group and says the nastiest/most unprofessional things about them. And then the group admins there just shut off comments and allow him to be a shitty person even though they don't even allow people to discuss normal experiences at restaurants if they aren't 100% glowing ass kissing reviews.

I liked why and how that group started with covid, but it's turned into a business venture and has made me completely sour to it.

Two fine choices. I also recommend Pappys. Their pulled pork is top notch. I've been to missouri mike's once. Fifteen dollars for a takeout sandwich and side that were gone in five minutes. It was mediocre and I was still hungry. All douchebaggery aside I'm not sure how they're still around.

You do realize that the same claim you’re making about that group has the same exact shit going on in this post? You’re bitching about closed groups encouraging harassment and the need to report it to SPD, all the while this post has people encouraging vandalism to a business.

BannedOnClubPenguin t1_ixsrv64 wrote

They aren't the same concept that you want them to be. A man harrassing homeless people and running a page to laugh and share with other who do the same to random people is not the same as people expressing disdain and backlash due to said unwarranted harassments'. You are being deliberately disingenuous if you can't see the cause and effect at hand here, and a bit naïve as you fail to mention the difference is, on his page, they encourage that behavior whereas on this page people are saying that encouraging vandalism to his workplace is stooping to his level and wrong. You clearly read the comment, maybe you didnt read the replies. Also ironic how you comment this on a sensible comment of someone saying all we can do is be aware of these pages and their creators, instead of commenting to one of the 2 other comments saying to draw on his building.

Harassment whether it’s warranted or not is still harassment. And I’d say one person saying they should vandalize property and 1-2 others saying they couldn’t personally do that isn’t exactly them discouraging it or saying it is wrong. Maybe you didn’t read all the comments.

First of all, I’m not the OP on this post. Second of all, I never said I agreed with the people encouraging harassment. Unlike cowards who hide behind “free speech” and don’t remove literal death threats in their Facebook groups, if it were up to me those comments would be removed. But I’m not a mod. Third, this isn’t a closed group. Nobody here is hiding their behavior in a closed Facebook group.

It absolutely fries my brain that behaving like an asshole and calling out someone for behaving like an asshole are considered equally offensive by some folks. I think we can all agree that adults need to take responsibility for their own behavior, yes? Maybe…and hear me out here…if someone doesn’t want to be publicly criticized they shouldn’t (checks notes) admin a group that punches down on vulnerable, marginalized people under the guise of humor. That’s just me, though.

I understand the desire to film. But I think it’s gotten a bit too much in our society. Film the cops, film when you believe someone is in danger and you can’t intervene safely, but the mentally ill shouldn’t be your modern day freak show content.

Most stupid people are offended when other stupid people get laughed at. It’s a satire page. The fact you’re a pussy doesn’t make Mike or any of the admins bad people. Nobody has walked in to his restaurant and assaulted him because only pussys are offended and they aren’t brave enough to step out from behind their computer. Missouri Mikes does a lot of great things for the community. Free speech is alive and well, sorry you got your feelings hurt, but the admin on that page aren’t the problem. It’s satire and comedy, get over it

He is an admin (not creator) of a fb group that people post comedic things around the city. Homeless people tweaking and taking shits behind buildings. But then cry babies like the op here get their feels hurt “I’m sure he needs help” and don’t find it funny. It’s comedy. It’s always subjective. And I’ve not seen Hickman nor any admin encourage anyone stalk or harass people. When the junk car was driving around town, everyone posted it there.
