Hey everyone- popping up from hibernation for this. https://q.brightspeed.com is the entry point to qualify and buy. We are working on something better and the transition from Lumen systems is getting smoother. I’ll try to get permission to talk more here and be back soon.

Old Quantum Fiber pages don’t work for Springfield any more and are not connected to Brightspeed systems for availability.

Social media disclaimer: I work for Brightspeed but these social media posts are my own.

Thanks for posting! I can talk about my experience with the company- it’s been amazing! We were built from scratch to deliver internet to people and the employees are really engaged. If I cad to sum it up in one sentence: I hear the word “yes” more often than before and “customers first” means something more.

Any idea why I constantly have to reset my router to stream?

My internet also randomly drops - which is annoying af

Just FYI, I was poking around the brightspeed website after seeing the news and the availability lookup site, shop.brightpseed.com is screwy, saying it can't find my address. The "q." version of the service lookup site works like a charm, though.

It's just a shame they won't have my zone until the end of March. We've had the lines run for a couple months now, but I guess the changeover has really put the brakes on everything.

I hope that brightspeed fixes quantum's shortfalls in the IPv6 space. Lumen built out the new quantum fiber infrastructure using a transitional technology called 6RD instead of native IPv6 implementation. it performs poorly and is disabled by default, likely because of this poor performance. I switched from Mediacom which has full native IPv6 capabilities that's just as fast or faster than IPv4 on their network.

Quantum just sold to some company called BrightSpeed. But there’s also like 8 huge purple buttons on quantum’s website to check availability.

I saw the brightspeed stuff which made me a little more leery. I do have it avaliable, and I am not certain which one is actually quantum website anymore. Seems like there are some copycats

417-430-7030 that goes directly to an Authorized Sales Agent with Brightspeed. Ask for Tony. He signed me up a couple of months ago and everything has been great!!!

They just switched to Brightspeed but they've sent me multiple emails that nothing is changing just the name. I still have the same service for the same price. I love my Quantum Fiber. You should just be able to go to the website check for availability and if it's in your area it'll ask if you want to sign up.

Brightspeed's website wasn't working right. So I called and have installation scheduled. Looked like the same deal that quantum has on their sites. $65 no data caps.

At the end of the call, they transferred me to verification, where they asked for my social. I declined. Turns out, they were selling dish network.

Reminder to all. Be careful with your private information.

Been trying to get installed, hit with an install charge which seemed odd since the fiber pedestal was literally in my yard. Turned out they require my house to be served from a few houses away which meant a 820 ish install, worked with them to change the path a bit so the install will be 560 ish, but then the Quantum/Brightspeed transition happened and I’ve been ghosted despite emails and calls. I just want to get rid of Mediacom and pay these guys $$$!

KTfl1 OP t1_is7hx4o wrote

I didn't have to pay.

It’s a last minute notice, I had an install scheduled but got an email from outside the system which was a shock. They only cover the first $1500, you won’t know until a few days before the install.

Seems odd that downtown still doesn’t have Quantum available - it’s only Mediacom or AT&T. Both of which are very pricey. I thought the whole Springfield area was supposed to have the CU fiber project completed by now - it’s been few years?

This whole thing has been a shit show. I remember first hearing about fiber for the city years ago through City Utilities. SpringNet was also involved too, then Century Link, then Quantum, then Lumen, and now Brightspeed.

I sat for over a year after my neighborhood got fiber before I could set up an install appointment, which I got in March of this year. Then that got canceled out of no where and they told me I couldn't schedule an install. This August I was again able to schedule an appointment, which again was canceled the week before because they wanted to charge me $3600 to run the line to my house.

I have given up on getting fiber and to honest I wouldn't even know who to talk to in order to get it. No one seems to know anything and the city has done a poor job of communicating these changes to the public.

Let me tell you about my Quantum experience. I had just moved here. Waited 3 weeks for them to arrive. They never did. Called, customer service rep from a foreign country in a foreign country, Guatemala, I think. Anyway, they told me technician would call. They never did. They flat out lied to me several times. The customer service rep had no idea what was going on as he was in another country. Same thing from multiple customer service reps in different areas. It was not their fault anyway. I all the years I have been on this planet, I have never had a utility company take my money and flat out lie to me. My husband and I had to take off work twice for people that NEVER showed up. The only thing they did right was to cancel my order correctly and refund my money. I am on the upper north side. They said they are here, they aren't, and that is why they kept trying to put me off. I would never use this company now no matter if they get their $#@^ together or not.

So the third company to take over CU's fiber network and it's still not installed in a huge area of Springfield. Seems about right.
