I’m moving to spring field here soon. I’ve heard mixed reviews on TLC property management. I was thinking about moving into one of their properties. Should I be concerned?
Westwood is pretty awesome and the manager is cool. I think it depends on who the manager is, not necessarily TLC as a whole. I've lived here for two years, and TLC is much more relaxed that Wooten or Affiniti (other large management companies in town). If you have a lower credit score ~580, you'll be able to get in too, whereas Wooten and Affiniti they want at least ~650.
They're college-y properties, but the majority of the people are just looking for a good place to live without having the best credit or spending a ton on rent.
I worked for TLC 6/7 years ago when I was in college and they just seemed like your typical management company. I moved away for awhile and just got back a few months ago so I’m sure a lot has changed since then but they are still around and have grown a bunch. Probably depends more so on the property over the actual company
It definitely depends on the specific property manager. When we moved in the manager was wonderful, incredibly responsive to maintenance issues, and kept later office hours (was open until 6pm). When they left the property, the new manager let things go downhill. Now maintenance tickets take forever and they habitually close the office early (when it's only open from 9am-5pm, it's not unusual to get an email saying they're closing at 2:00). It's pretty annoying, but overall the unit and property amenities are nice.
TLC is a complete shit show. From shitty roving maintenance all the way up to predatory administration. They have but one goal, to squeeze as much cash as they can from you.
I would urge you to avoid them, but sadly, there are no competitors that are any better.
