I was thinking about signing a lease with TLC. What’s the word on them?

In my experience, they're awful. I lived in scenic station near grand and scenic. My moped was stolen there and they did absolutely nothing to help me out. They hardly ever took care of landscaping and let a tree grow so low that every car entering from the east side would get scratched by the tree, that completely ruined the paint on top of our Honda Element. They also will not work with you to alter your lease agreement. Just avoid them if you can.

TLC is the absolute worst. Moved out of one of their apartments, had it professionally cleaned. They signed off on it and everything. Now they are charging me almost 3k for carpet replacement.

jeez. I had to get my carpet replaced too plus all new blinds in bedroom & living room. I just checked my move out statement from last year & for all that I was only charged $355. They even offered me to split the payments up over 4 months at $88.76 each. I also never put a deposit down due to a special they were having at the time I moved in. Maybe it just all depends on property management?
Trixxxxxi t1_is5gd71 wrote
I never had issues with them. And didn't get charged anything when I left. I also didn't destroy my apartment.
The only issues I had were with neighbors, but it was just 1 apartment of college assholes destroying shit and they got kicked out.
Take it all with a grain of salt. If you ask about any apartments on here people will say they are terrible. YMWV. Gotta live somewhere though.
Edit: get your own renters insurance. Theirs is crap, and you can get better for the same price.
Trixxxxxi t1_is2czp4 wrote
Ok. I looked at my last payment to them, and it was partial. I think when I logged into the portal it was prorated for me already. You should call and talk to the office manager.

TLC is predatory. Look at your lease to see when your move out date is. You’re only required to pay until that date

Fuuuuck TLC properties, they will prorate it but you will probably have to hound them about it. Also watch out for bogus charges on your final inspection
ShroomHex t1_is3773w wrote
Yeah they charged us for replacing all the lightbulbs after we moved out. I know it's bogus because I installed LED lights all over the house and kept the bulbs that were there and put them back when we moved out. TLC did us dirty every chance they could.

I did the same ! Yep

My building just got bought out by TLC and they're claiming that they will not renew our lease if we don't go with their shitty free internet, which I'm pretty sure is illegal under a new FCC rule. They say we cannot purchase a more solid provider like att fiber.
Everything that I've read about TLC sounds shitty.

I have ATT fiber and it's been solid. If you look at the reviews online for Netvision, the company that TLC partners with, you'll see what I'm referring to. They have a 2.8 rating on Google with 200+ reviews.
They didn't even have customer service during the weekends and constant outages.

What a bizarre rule.
Arc-ansas t1_is63iup wrote
It's not a bizarre rule. The new FCC rule prevents landlords from forcing you to use a certain ISP and gives tenets more choice. It also forces landlords to be transparent if they have any deals with these companies to make money off their tennents. It's a great step forward for consumer/tennent rights.
Low_Tourist t1_is672f7 wrote
It's a bizarre rule for the apartment, not a weird law. Trust, I live in a place where they take a slice of EVERYTHING and we have one option for anything. I'm all for tenants having more options.
Arc-ansas t1_is70mfl wrote
Ah. I see. Haha thought you meant the FCC rule. Federal agencies policies are called rules.
TLC is going to add this as a provision to my lease. But I'm going to make a formal FCC complaint and take legal action. Not sure how yet.
Oceanhippo1 t1_is2hyx5 wrote
They may not prorate the rent. I work for a wireless provider that does not prorate a bill for unused services if a customer ports their service in the middle of a billing cycle. Different industry, of course, but may have similar regulations for billing.
PM_YOUR_PUPPERS t1_is31w3r wrote
Read your lease, it's prolly in there. My last place wanted 7 days.
Trixxxxxi t1_is2cm39 wrote
I'm pretty sure you pay the full month then they refund the remainder after you leave. I lived in a TLC property and this is how it went I think.

Yes

I’ve lived at a few TLC properties and they’ve always prorated the rent
I-haveit-together t1_is5eai5 wrote
Depends on when you gave notice. They require a 60 day notice and if you miss that then you give a 30 day notice from your lease end date. So if your lease ends November 15th and you are just now telling them you’re leaving, then you missed that 60 day notice time frame and will have to be responsible for that extra 30 days after your lease end date. So until December 15th.
defmartian0031 t1_is296ql wrote
Moving out doesn't change the terms of your lease. I would read it and see if it says you agreed to pay for the whole month. Most places will pro-rate but I've heard TLC is predatory
