Refinance the car with a bank or credit union and borrow enough to cover taxes/registration. Other option is student loan. Final option, sell the car and get a less expensive one.

There's is a cost calculator on the DMV website to give you an exact cost. $2-3k in registration expense would mean you purchased a car for roughly $30k or more which doesn't sound accurate from your description.

Did you have a job when you got the vehicle? What do you owe vs the vehicle value? I’d generally suggest selling it and getting something you can afford, but that would likely require another loan that you likely won’t get without a job.

I really hate to suggest it, but a student loan would probably be the best option right now. Do you have a job lined up after graduation? Get a summer job ASAP. You can also look into donating plasma for $. Sell some of your stuff on Facebook marketplace/Craigslist. Drop monthly recurring bills (Netflix or other subscriptions), get on the cheapest cell phone plan you can.

I can’t get a student loan either. i had to pay for school with FAFSA and out of pocket, got denied for student loans. I had a part time job when i got the car but i can’t work right now. I have a summer job and a job after grad lined up, but sadly that doesn’t help me now. I’m fine with selling my car, but i also can’t afford another car or loan like you said. I can’t donate plasma due to medical issues, trust me i’ve tried lol

Why would you buy a car without knowing what the sales tax is?

You might also double check with the lot you bought the car from - some places will include the sales taxes in you loan since a new law passed in 2021.
