Sorry what? if it's full-time as advertised, that's $8.45/hr... is that even legal? to pay less than state and federal minimum wage for a job that doesn't involve tips?

Edit: whoops, coulda sworn fed min wage had increased from $7.25/hr... that's some criminal bs

Edit 2: thanks to the comments, now I also know this is a volunteer position. More info in comments-- thanks!

EDIT: the amount of pay is set by the NCS and AmeriCorp, and not by the nonprofit

I'm all a higher minimum wage but this is an interesting type of position. It's associated with a federal program called AmeriCorp VISTA and associated with the Corporation for National and Community Services. VISTA specially partners with nonprofits that serve low income/poverty stricken areas, and provides a few full-time employees for those organizations because they may not have the additional funds to hire a new person but need the help. AmeriCorp also offers an Education stipend (usually around 6,000) for finishing a term of service (up to 2 service terms), and student loan forbearance during service. Very appealing for recent grads looking for good in initial job experience.

However, to the point of pay, it is part of the mission to not be paid more than the people you are serving. So ironically their mission is to help people in poverty by putting people in poverty.

that is super helpful and informative! Thank you! Their job ad should really be more clear what's happening, what they're offering

I'm not 100% sure why but I was extremely difficult to find specific information about what the program is, until I went through orientation. Even when I applied they didn't even show the pay., I assumed based on reddit comments and reviews, and I wasn't confident until I asked during the interview.
