Whether you’re going with friends, significant others, or family:
Do you prefer to share a more comfortable and warm DOUBLE air mattress/sleeping pad or have your own smaller (single) air mattress/sleeping pad that is less warm and maybe just slightly less comfortable?
Or do you have no preference, just whatever is cheapest, easiest, or most convenient to do?
Yeah I know I could post it to a camping sub or something, but I didn’t want to because like those people are more serious. Like they probly have their $2,000 camping setup for backpacking materials and whatever else. I’m just wanting to know more about your average regular person. Not like people who are hardcore camping enthusiasts. Just a more broad idea.
Hook me up w the rich people you are talking about so I don’t have to always sleep on the ground. lol jk. But really please do
It depends on the time of year, cold at night share, hot split apart.
I do camping in a variety of settings year round. Non -romantic, I would prefer single bags and single air mattress. Romantic, double bags and double air mattress.
That’s awesome! How much do you have invested into your camping gear? Or do you have like a full gear load out?
I started out with just all low end and used stuff. I have some stuff now that is above Walmart quality, I spend a little coin on things that are smaller and lighter. I do a little back packing and a lot of sleeping in a small SUV. So space is an issue.
My advice on camping is to start out with one night local and slowly evolve to what you want to be doing.
I’m poor so I have to sleep in a sleeping bag on the ground in a tent. No air mattress etc.
Yeah that’s so rough though. Do you not wake up with major back issues?
Yeah I will wake up and feel like shit bc I barley slept lol. It’s not the best for my back but I love camping ⛺️
I used to use those Therma-Rest Z-Lite or RidgeRest pads because I was young and tough, and they were cheap and warm to sleep on, but then I switched to a classic inflatable like the BaseCamp and I was more comfortable for just a little bit of extra weight. These days though I use the Neo-Air pads, and they're no extra weight and WAY more comfortable, and they pack tighter. I think they sleep a little colder though. Even if I replaced all of my backpacking gear with minimalist ultra-light gear, I wouldn't give up that Neo-Air. It's too comfortable.

I love this! I have always wanted to do more hammock camping. Do you not struggle to find places with enough trees? Or where do you go like campgrounds, random forests, or what?
Whenever I’ve gone camping, it’s usually been cots and sleeping bags
I just sleep on the ground.

That is so rough. I have too many back problems for that I think 😂
If in a tent, I'm just using my sleeping bag. If outside I place a canvas tarp down first, then my sleeping bag. None of this mattress stuff. If I'm that hard up that I need a mattress then I'm not tired enough from hiking and being outdoors.
Haha I can understand this for sure. I like the vibe. However, I have back issues and would wake up not able to move 😂
That's not camping, and the hassle of an air mattress isn't worth it. Bring two foam bed rolls and good sleeping bags. And a dome tent, none of that bullshit you can stand up in.
Yeah I can see that. But sleeping pads that are lighter and easy to inflate might be worth it. The foam pads tend to be heavier than these anyway. But obviously it comes with a greater expense. But I’m with you on the stand up tents. While it’s kinda nice to stand, it doesn’t feel as authentic or immersive
