I have a hard time believing the NHL culture really cares about Pride Stuff when they only wear the jerseys for like 15 min just for warm ups, along with saying they care after what happened with the Blackhawks scandal.

A player was sexually assaulted, made fun of by other players whom he told happened, top of the brass allegedly knew about all this and just swept it under the rug for years because we were good 10 years ago. This person was protected for years and the NHL did basically nothing to him. To this day, I still refuse to go to or watch Hawks games because of it.

The NHL at the end of the day is a business and it will do anything they can to capitalize on things as long as they sell more tickets. So while I was happy that the Hawks were a dynasty all those years ago, those years just feel tainted to me.

I don't agree with what he says but I don't think you can force every player to wear these shirts. Not every player will be tolerant always.

He wasn't forced to wear anything.

Best thing on here

Reminds me of that Seinfeld episode with the aids walk that Kramer was assaulted because he refused to wear the black ribbon.

We don’t want to hurt a foreign players feelings while then make money in America or anything. We need to respect his right to support his government and their anti gay purges, so morally correct.

So you'd like what exactly?

Try to shame everyone who disagrees to switch to your preferred view? Or is it to send a message to everyone else to comply or else you'll go after them next?

How does that help anyone?

Lol, when people were getting arrested for wearing pride flags in Qatar there were dumbasses who were defending the Qatar police by saying that the people should know they are in a different country and to follow their rules and respect their culture. But, now we have the same thing happening here (but without any real penalty) and the same people are saying "well he is from Russia so it's ok"

I’d like him to support his team and do what the team is doing, support gay American fans of his team by doing what his team is doing. His country and other countries under Putin’s control kill and purge gay people. Does it make you feel good to support his belief that gay people should be purged?

Would you support an Iranian American soccer player not playing until every female in the arena is obeying sharia?

You don’t coddle beliefs like that, I don’t care if it makes you feel good to say you support everyone. Go deal with the realities of those political beliefs before you shroud yourself in the pretense that supporting everyone is ok.

Let him be homophobic and let people associate him with his prejudices.

Tell me how this makes him homophobic? Phobic or Phobia means to have an irrational fear of something. I don’t think the man is afraid of anything pertaining to LQ+ culture. He simply doesn’t agree with the culture for religious reasons. His opinion is his. We don’t need to label him.🙄

"homophobia is the fear, hatred, discomfort with, or mistrust of people who are lesbian, gay, or bisexual". The Latin Root of part of the word doesn't define the whole contextually...

Lol semantics. You obviously know what homophobic means in the current world, yet you try deflect from the issue. That's like me saying "but gay means happy, not homosexual"

The dude won’t show solidarity with gay ppl because he thinks there’s something wrong with being gay, if that’s not homophobia what is?
