I thought it was the other way around, Jerry Jones didn't want to lose NY, Philly, and DC media markets.

This is my thought, too. But, I also believe (based on nothing) that Jerry Jones sold his soul to the Devil for the Cowboys' championships in the nineties, and he will not live to see them win another one.
