True, but in this case, the seventh seed isn't one of the teams so it works out the same.

For the seven seed to matter in this equation they need to beat the two seed on wildcard weekend which is technically possible but would still be rare. I think we will see it like once every five years to a decade. I know any giving Sunday but there’s such a gap between a top four team in the league and a roughly league average team. Then they also need to be in the same division as two other teams that all made it to the next round.

Even with expanded playoffs I think this will continue to be incredibly rare.

If you removed the 7th seed the Playoff picture would be the exact same as it is right now.
