Although the Russians are banned from international competition, they are holding their own this year. To no one’s surprise, she’s been allowed to compete.

The egregious part is that her free skate is all about the doping scandal including clips of the Western media talking about it spliced into the music. Her coaches talk about it representing her struggle. (I’ve refused to watch it, but that’s what I understand). It’s very obviously continuing the propaganda about “the evil west is out to get poor Russian girls” Russia’s been using her as an example of.

But when has skating and sports in general not been propaganda for Russia? Their sports ministry is literally funded by their military branch.

It really is amazing how good some folks are at painting themselves as a victim. Some folks could murder someone on video, then cry to people about how unfairly they're being treated, pointing out how people are accusing them of murder (completely ignoring the fact they are proven murderers beyond the shadow of any doubt).

To be fair, I do have some sympathy for the athletes. She probably began her Olympic training at 10 or 12 years old and was indoctrinated into this program. It’s certainly not fair to the other athletes, but she also probably didn’t have much of a say in it. I’ll criticize the Russian state-sponsored doping program all day long, but some (not all) of these athletes are kind of caught up in a shitty situation.
