It surprises me that english fans are always surprised when the inevitable happens. They have somehow convince themselves this time it is different.

I always enjoy the headline every World Cup that says England loses

Are they surprised? No one was ever expecting England to win this competition. The general consensus was quarter finals, maybe semis if we're lucky. Which is what ended up happening. There was very little hype for this tournament compared to something like the Euros, where there's a much higher chance of success.

Thank you. Leave it to the geniuses of Reddit to strawman literally everything, including sports.

The general consensus in England was not winning the wc. It was at least appreciated that we are currently better than we have been in the last 30 years, but outright winning the worldcup with a high degree of certainty is not at all a sentiment expressed by the majority. At the very most, we knew that there was a much better chance of England winning than a team like Spain or Belgium (who were number 2 in FIFA rankings prior to wc).

Redditors will find the stupidest shit to twist their panties over.

We’re not surprised we’re just disappointed, like every team’s fans when they’re out. Most of us understand that there are 32 teams in the tournament and 31 sets of fans will feel that disappointment. England have n excellent team, and so do Brazil, Spain etc….if you played the tournament 5 times in a row you’d get 5 different outcomes (most likely) - it’s ok, we’re not shocked they’re out.

Yeah this, literally no one in England is surprised, never expect to win any major tournament but Reddit makes out like English fans think it’s in the bag every tournament. Don’t think people understand the ‘it’s coming home’ stuff is tongue in cheek

I screamed the first England goal as if it were my national team (and I'm from Argentina) they truly deserved to pass, such a shame

redditors struggle with irony, they see "it's coming home" and think it's arrogance and over-confidence rather than a meme. just one of those things that a hive mind can't deal with

This is correct and I'll fight anyone who disagrees

England is a singular noun, there is one England.

"England are" is grammatically incorrect in every possible context.

The title of this post should be "France wins and England is out"
