I guess Eden Hazard should have concentrated more on playing the game than criticizing other countries for taking a picture.

Rankings mean nothing once the tournament starts. You can “know they are a top team” all you want, but if they don’t get a result against Croatia they will not advance.

Not that I think we will win the WC, but no team has won all their games since 2002. Spain 2010 even lost their first game and it’s considered one of the all time great teams. It happens in World Cups.

What I will say is I think Southgate set up not to lose rather than to win that game. The way the players played with little urgency and their seeming ease with the result suggests to me, and lots of commentators that I watch, that this was part of the plan. If Kane scores that header at the end, then everyone would be saying boring but good cup football. We basically played not to concede and nick it on a set piece. We aren’t so strong against pressing teams like the USA. I think the Wales match will be more like Iran.

Anyone else find it odd that a World Cup in a Middle Eastern Muslim nation that paid billions to host a World Cup has a high amount of upsets between Muslim nations and western non-Muslim nations? Qatar still got eliminated but….I don’t know. Just seems like a World Cup fraught with this much corruption wouldn’t shy away from influencing game results too.

You’re onto something here. Upsets such as the Muslim Khalifate of Japan over Germany are strange indeed, must be all that Arab money paying for it. I mean we can also ignore the results from Tunisia, Qatar and Saudi’s loss to Poland but I get your point.

If you shut out the peripheral mess surrounding this WC (not that you should), this tournament kind of rules so far. Great performance by Morocco.

European nations got away with a lot of offside goals in the past. VAR is finally making it a fair.

They were a top team, but the lost the chance with their golden generation ever since 2014. Now most of them have aged out & lost their edge and this is perhaps the worst showing of it.

Morocco is really good, they always underperform compared to the talent they have... Boufal, El neyri, ziyech should beat Belgian boomers most of the time.

The golden generation is done 👍

Belgium won't make the quarters and I'd bet on Croatia beating them while Morocco get a dull draw against Canada to qualify for the last sixteen.

I don’t know how anyone else hasn’t noticed but the obvious trend is that countries with hotter climates seem to be doing well. Because y’know, for $ome rea$on they decided to hold the World Cup in a hot and dry desert.

Both African matches yesterday were supremely entertaining.

Cameron 3 - 3 Serbia

Ghana 3 - 2 South Korea

Plus upsets galore

Saudi Arabia 2 - 1 Argentina

Japan 2 - 1 Germany
