I just hope he remembers to have fun up there.

Hope he has a successful trip. Being part of the first generation of Chinese astronauts and just now getting the opportunity must have been frustrating.

Frustrating is never getting chosen, or chosen and never going ever, like many trainees. Just being selected for the training program is already awesome and you're basically already a trained taikonaut

Always in time to be a national hero of a country in never ending oppression, though.

Great. Now he can broadcast “step down” to his government.

Guys I get you have problems with China the country but can we not put on a parade of insults every time there’s a mention of them and their space program? Let’s keep them separate, especially on a post that is celebrating human success!

Going into space is a lifetime’s dream for everyone and this is an incredible accomplishment. I am glad their 25 year wait came to an end.

With this crewed launch, China now temporarily has more astronauts (6) in space than any other country

Given his age, this’ll probably be his only mission. Yet, he will be able to retire with his head held high.

Deng at 53 is actually the 2nd oldest on the crew. The commander Fei Junlong is 57. He's story is a lot like Alan Shepard in that he was also one of the first batch of five taikonauts. He got to fly on the 2nd CNSA manned mission Shenzhou 6 as the commander back in 2005. Now 17 years later he's commander again for Shenzhou 15 and the oldest taikonaut in the corp. He also holds the highest rank among all current taikonauts as a major general in PLASSF.

Alan Shepard had a 10 year gap between Freedom 7 and Apollo 14.

Personally I find this subreddit one of the most "China neutral" subs around. Yes there's always reactionaries posting the same old tired lines, but they're generally ignored and/or disagreed with. Very happy this sub can find common joy and admiration with all nations and people!

You throw a huge number of insults in this sub, so it's hard to believe you think it's neutral.

Edit: He blocked me, but I wonder if he's also the guy who reported me to Reddit as being suicidal. Guess I'll never know.
