I don't get how people think a superintelligence wouldn't be capable of designing and building machines dynamic and intelligent enough to perform maintenance work.

Certainly eventually. I don't think AI is going to roll out quiet as quickly as the more optimistic on this sub feel it will.

Navigating to a home or business, navigating the home or business itself, making repairs in a unique situation is going to require a great deal of intelligence and flexible robotics. Maybe by the end of the century. That gives young people at least 80 years to pursue these careers. Plenty of time for the current working age population and probably the next to successfully pursue these professions without much fear of competition from robots. After 2100 all bets are off.

80 years lol that's conservative. You're forgetting the compounding nature of these technologies. 20 years max before things get to a point of sophistication that our society is unrecognizable from today. And that's worst case scenario. Realistically, considering what guys like Sam Altman and Demis Hassabis have to say about it, the progress thus far and their projections for the near and long term future for where this tech is going to go- we're 5-10 years away from something resembling AGI coming online.
