For context I'm a software engineer with 3-4 years of professional experience. Self-taught/bootcamp baby.
Based on the speed of development within generative AI it seems likely to occur within 5-10 years assuming a very mild take off. This somewhat alarms my lizard brain because it's my bread and butter currently. Should I study machine learning? Or is that futile?
But to give an opposing arguement, I can see the advancements as augmentation and will assist with making me more effective for 10-15 years. From my point of view it'll be like being a manager of 5 or developers which I'll maintain, support, and utilize. Which adds immense value to my expertise.
Which do you believe is likely to occur?
