After watching the video I can feel things are improving faster for 3D, we might get a dall-e type of breakthrough next year. Some of these models could fit as secondary props in a game like Final Fantasy, it looks already good enough from a certain distance. For AI to be able to make a highly accurate 3D representation of anything is very important to reach AGI, but before that, we will enjoy the benefits it gives for video games and other industries that rely on 3D.

I have a hunch that generative AI for 3D is not orders of magnitude harder than 2D.

Now that much more is understood, they are / soon will be able to train systems to "understand" 3D models quickly.

This plus immersive VR and AR will be like....... Well I'm not even sure what to compare it to. Like the explosion of creativity from the web but all around us in our living spaces.

That would be great paired with 3d printing !

I had plans to start learning 3d modeling in 2023, because I've always wanted to learn it and maybe make some money with it eventually. However, the way things are looking, I believe by the time I master it (I'd say about 4-5 years of intense practicing to get good at it), AI will have made the need for 3d artists (in the traditional sense, modeling stuff from scratch) obsolete or close to it.

Judging from the AI generated art that we have TODAY, I really think AI will drastically change the lives of 2d and 3d artists in the near future. Anyone will be able to make high level 2d or 3d art with AI. It looks grim, to be fair. Or maybe I'm just overreacting to all the news about AI art. I don't know.

Ok so we got geometry and materials. When can we get animation rigging / control points, etc?

Maybe throw in speech recognition and we can program 3d holodeck simulations with just a few voice commands
