Some people truly love their lives. Their lives have meaning. If you're speaking exclusively about yourself then fair enough. I understand your position though it is a nihilistic philosophy that probably isn't conducive to happiness or the potential for meaning. I feel like my interest in this emerging technology and its consequences are a form of religious surrogate in the face of nihilism. I think this is the case with a lot of people in this sub.

They will still truly love their lives... without scarcity or physical laws to obey there's actually way more possibilities for meaning-making than our current system of limitation

Its not nihilism to explore a new frontier, its nihilism to not have one.

I usually condense my interest in this field into one word: fear. Not exactly proud of it, but yes, I don’t think I’d be necessarily engaging with these ideas if it weren’t for raw fear. Much the same thing fuelling religious tendencies to a degree.

sounds like you think the singularity is going to co-exist with individual entities living out their individual lives. that seems like a very strange dichotomy. man's various philosophies don't matter. if the singularity is right then we need to bring it it to bear so we can merge with it and it can leverage us however is necessary for it to evolve. if thinking about such things bothers you, then you probably don't want to see the singularity come to pass
