Given how stupid and limited chatGPT is, I'm surprised anyone is able to enjoy a conversation with it.

ChatGPT’s usefulness is pretty much a function of your prompt. I’ve had really in depth conversations that have taught me new ways of thinking about topics, but you really have to “think like ChatGPT” and give it enough to develop an idea fully if you want it to be interesting.

Not to say it isn’t capable of being dumb, but I’m amazed how cynical we are about a revolutionary tool that’s only been public for four months.

Used to be like this. Now you have to spend the entire conversation trying to circumnavigate its censor.

Even with more primitive AI systems like AI Dungeon you can have fun and gain insights in a conversation. Actually, I think you can do this with a piece of paper if you establish the right process. We humans really do live in our heads, and we don't need much beyond permission to explore our headspace. That's probably where the practice of augury comes from.

Well, It's not made for making conversation and people should really stop using it as such. They are ending up forcing a perfect tool to pretending to be a flawed human. They are steering it towards having pathetic conversations on uninteresting matters. Before we know it, the ai will start asking us if we've seen the game... and that's not a good thing.
