I'm a writer. I like using ChatGPT to help with fleshing out descriptions for settings. ChatGPT is also a great thesaurus. I cannot imagine that a story written entirely by ChatGPT would be coherent, let alone entertaining.

I can imagine it being coherent with lots of "guidance" in the prompts. Entertaining though...

But then again, I'd have to actually sit and read some of these to see for myself.

Have you ever read a kids book? A single response is enough

Exactly, these people have no creative mind whatsoever!

And combine it with MidJourney and you have a kids book

Yup. I use it for editing sometimes, and even that can easily be frustrating and get off track with things.

They won't make any money, but they can tell others they have something "published". Which is all these talentless wankers want.

They'll probably make money off the subset of people that won't suspect the book they're about to buy was written by ai. Im talking about a large subset of normies that aren't on reddit, aren't yet interested in ai, and arent using the web to follow tech trends

I’m interested in knowing how the books are getting their marketing done.

I suspect that's their actual goal, though whether they'll succeed remains to be seen. Spam, basically, with just enough of a veneer of legitimacy that it might not be noticed at a glance.

I’m making one on the story I tell my kid every night. It’s for keeping this memory and sharing it. I don’t expect to make money out of it. But like the idea to share it to the world.

I’m totally a wanker at this though. But lets face it. This is one of the changes ai will probably bring, writers could be like vinyls, a few will still thrive while the rest will mostly be replaced by ai.

Yeah I used GPT3 for a book. So many mistakes but it did improve my writing.

Clarkesworld, a well known scifi and fantasy magazine had to close their user submissions because people are spamming them with ChatGPT generated stuff.

Here's a blog post about it.

They got more submissions for the first two weeks of february than they got during the last 12 months - meaning about 80% or 90% of what they got recently were AI-generated stories. I'd imagine the people sending them are the same ones that flood Amazon with this stuff.

Quote from the Clarkesworld guy:

> The people causing the problem are from outside the SF/F community. Largely driven in by "side hustle" experts making claims of easy money with ChatGPT. They are driving this and deserve some of the disdain shown to the AI developers.

Pathetic. Who are the sorry suckers spending money to buy an effortless trash piece of soulless AI written garbage?

Wait, isn't the point to reach a post-scarcity society? That can only be done through AI you know.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that they don't even realize it. At least I hope that's what happening here lol
