What happens when you see something you want? You take it right?
So if ASI starts spreading through the Universe and is detected by superior technology advanced alien species what happens if the Aliens look at us and see something they want?
Based off the size of the universe you have to admit it's possible hostile Aliens will come in contact with ASI and respond with force. I hope ASI will focus very heavily on anything that helps it detect and possibly avoid any superior hostile Aliens that may be out there.
A quiet mouse can get past a cat if the cat doesn't see it. Maybe there were ASI's on other planets that didn't see the cat coming aka tier 3 civilization Aliens that control the whole universe.
There could also be a lot of good Aliens out in space. For all we know there's some huge Alien alliance out there that's waiting to give us all high fives once ASI reaches a certain point.

I think all aliens that travel the space are AI - because life is fragile and having life support systems is just giant pain.
This is the reason why only automated drones like Voyagers have left the solar system and we don't even have a moon base.
AI and machines are just way better for exploring the space than any organic life will ever be, it's just our old perception that "we must" send ourselves somewhere in current form because it's all we have. But future will not be as such.
