The study was done in mice so that isn't enough evidence to say it will hold true in humans. And even when they do a study in humans, you need a lot of them (humans and studies) to be conclusive

Did you read the first line of the article? They have found it DOES help with the effects of photo-aging of skin, they just don’t understand HOW it works yet.
Ecnassianer t1_it0il1o wrote
It was not clear to me from the article, did they study applying topical CBD before sun exposure (i.e, as sunscreen) or after sun damage (i.e, burn salve). Does anyone else know which it was?

“The CBD cream improved the skin's condition by lowering the photodamage scores, reducing abnormal skin proliferation, and decreasing expression of the inflammation-related protein cyclooxygenase-2 in UVB-irradiated skin tissue. The photoprotective effects of CBD might be attributed to its modulatory effects on redox homeostasis and autophagy.”
I’m copying this from another comment that copied the abstract of the article. You have a really good question, I wasn’t sure either but after reading this I think the CBD cream was used like an after sun.

Sunscreen with CBD seems like it'd be a home-run product for people that are on the CBD bandwagon.
Though CBD lotions are pretty good for just general lotion uses anyway (as long as the lotion is good quality and isn't greasy.)
Socky_McPuppet t1_it3w3lu wrote
That would be what I would assume from the word "alleviating", rather than, say, mitigating or preventing. But it's pretty bad that the wording is so unclear that the question has to be asked. That seems like a pretty basic thing to want to know.

I've read about treating certain skin cancers with CBD oil and they healed off completely.
Not sure how valid those results/experiences were though.
Tapprunner t1_it25gom wrote
I'm not going to say that's impossible... but it doesn't sound likely.

While interesting, it definitely warrants much more data, with larger human trials before a strong correlation can be stated.

Definitely, but that's why I said the above. I've seen it mentioned here and there over the years. That study with the first google result btw.. At least it seems promising.

I think it may be both, actually. It may have been applied before, during, and after exposure. I could be wrong.
I’m astounded that it isn’t more clear.

How often do they reapply the cream too?

> Abstract
> Cannabidiol (CBD) has emerged as a phytocannabinoid with various beneficial effects for the skin, including anti-photoaging effects, but its mechanisms of action are not fully elucidated. The study assessed CBD's photoprotective effects against acute ultraviolet B (UVB)-induced damage in HaCaT human keratinocyte cells and murine skin tissue. CBD (8 μM) alleviated UVB-induced cytotoxicity, apoptosis, and G2/M cell cycle arrest in HaCaT cells. The contents of γH2AX and cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers were decreased after CBD treatment. CBD reduced the production of reactive oxygen species and modulated the expression of antioxidant-related proteins such as nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 in UVB-stimulated HaCaT cells. Furthermore, CBD mitigated the UVB-induced cytotoxicity by activating autophagy. In addition, a cream containing 5% CBD showed effectiveness against UVB-induced photodamage in a murine model. The CBD cream improved the skin's condition by lowering the photodamage scores, reducing abnormal skin proliferation, and decreasing expression of the inflammation-related protein cyclooxygenase-2 in UVB-irradiated skin tissue. These findings indicate that CBD might be beneficial in alleviating UVB-induced skin damage in humans. The photoprotective effects of CBD might be attributed to its modulatory effects on redox homeostasis and autophagy.

Is anybody else getting tired of reading headline after headline about how cannabis does aaaaaall the things like it’s some magical freaking cure-all? No? Just me?

If you smoked more cannabis you wouldn’t remember seeing the previous headlines and it wouldn’t bother you so much.

It's a compound with anti inflammatory properties. It's going to get studied because that is useful.
Thankfully, it isn't being shoveled as a cancer cure.
