Who has the best King Cakes around RVA? Any good in the West End? Publix was dry and disappointing. The baby was just sitting on top and not even baked into it.

No one cooks them in anymore for that very reason. Gambino's out of NO ships them with the baby sitting on top.

I had Montana Gold recently. It was delightful.

One of my friends just recommended them as well. She did say you may need to place an order ahead.

Had a real one in Nola yesterday. Can confirm. It’s not inside anymore.

I used to live in NOLA. That is a travesty I hadn't heard about. Now I am sad. :(

That first link is good but posting a 3 yo thread is really unhelpful. Especially for such a specific request. Businesses close or decide to stop doing the specific thing requested. A lot of users like to act like the search bar is some godsend and turn their nose up at users asking a question and then they come in with an old linked post. Things change.

Arley Cakes had them last year (with an almond instead of a baby inside). It was my first time eating a king cake, so I don’t have anything to compare it to, but I loved it! I’m not sure if she is making them this year, but keep an eye out for them on her instagram if she does. Last year she started taking orders a couple weeks prior to Mardi Gras.

I wanna say they (grocery stores) started doing that because it's a liability thing.
