Where are you getting your labs done? My dad passed of a VERY rare cancer (primary peritoneal) and my mom was just diagnosed with cancer but we’re waiting to see how bad when they get the results back. I’ve tested negative for BRCA genes but I’d love to get more info!
The first set was from Primary Health Group and the second was from Virginia Women's Center. VWC ran the ultra-sensitive labs through LabCorp. Hope you test negative for all the bad things!
Yep. Knew that. I've got a family member who's lived a life full of healthy eating and daily exercise, etc., and still has a form of colitis that's basically made it uncomfortable to travel and enjoy food.
That is horrible :(
Yup, I was diagnosed with cancer at 30 for no reason but “sometimes it just happens” I’m sorry your folks are going through that. I hope your labs turn out well.
Thank you. I'm so sorry that you have cancer so young. I hope you go into full remission here in 2023.
Thanks, I’m 36 now, and in remission as of this year.
That's amazing news! Glad to hear it.

Still want to attend the cone parade dressed as a comb and pretend I just misheard the name.
DO IT
Hahahaha omg please.
I have two days to build my costume... but it's so easy not to do it... but i waaaant to!
I'll do this with you!!! Sounds freakin' hilarious and I want IN. I have time tomorrow to build with you and grab whatever needed.
According to my coworker, this would be New Year's Adam
I'm going to spend New Years in my new condo with a cat that I took in.
Yay new kitty!
He's semi feral and would follow me when I would go walking and wants me to pet him. I couldn't bear to leave him behind when I moved, so I took him with me. I'm getting him acclimated to my new place.
Heart=melted. Lucky kitty!

Our family tradition is pretty simple. My 12 yo spends the night with my ILs, has every year since he was an infant (except last year, when I had covid and we didn't want to risk spreading it). This is the first year without my FIL, who passed about 2 months ago now, so it was extra important to MIL that they uphold the tradition. Husband and I will stay at home, watch the ball drop on YouTube, and be in bed by 12:05. Welcome to your 40s, I guess.

I have a lot of women’s clothes to donate - any recommendations on the best place to take it? Some fast fashion, but mostly brands like Loft/Express and quite a few dresses, professional, and business casual pieces.
You might check with a women's shelter for assistance with interview clothes?
I would suggest the clothes rack. They resell (at great prices) and the Junior League supports a lot of good causes.
Try Shepherd's Way
Road trip to Roanoke and looking for a ~1 hour podcast episode. No politics. Lay it on me.
Edit: THANK YOU! The family carpool is blown away by the options. Especially the Tom Hanks of Trees.
Completely Arbortrary - a podcast about trees! Each episode they do a deep dive into one specific tree species, as well as one other tree-themed topic that is related to that episode’s tree. It’s great!
runs off to subscribe
Hope you like it! I’ve become obsessed with trees since moving to RVA a couple years ago, and listening to the podcast has been super fun.
Word of warning though: the hosts are located in Portland, OR, and therefore have a bit of a west coast bias. For example, they admit that they generally like conifers more than hardwood trees - which is pretty clearly a wrong opinion if you ask me. They also get some facts wrong every once in a while when it comes to some of our local trees. But they’re generally very interesting and entertaining!
I too have strong opinions about slightly irrational things and I respect your bias towards hardwoods.

Wait, are you me? I stumbled across a chestnut tree soon after moving here and it absolutely lit up something in my brain!
Do yourself a favor and purchase a copy of the Sibley Guide to Trees.
I love No Such Thing as a Fish. Funny British people going on deep dives into random facts. You can pick it up at any episode.
My wife and I loved this for years. Still do, but baby makes things harder on long car rides. What a great show... I laugh so hard every time and learn so much.
I love 90 song that explains the 90s. Only podcast I listen to
This American Life’s most recent episode (“Baby’s First Christmas”) was politics free, and the second story had me laughing out loud.
This Is Actually Happening episode 227: what if you faced a terrifying beast? True survivor story of a bear attack, sad story but man it was all I could think about for a few days after I listened.
Black Box Down. It discusses plane crashes and why they happened. If you're weird like me and into that kind of thing!
Start The Foolkiller from The Constant.
Or gimlet media, Myster Show ep 3 The Belt Buckle
If you can handle true crime about murder, Sinisterhood
The Morning Stream
The Curious Cases of Rutherford & Fry.
Shutdown Fullcast - any of the disaster episodes.
11/12 492
Worst score ever and now I'm inundated with posts about some guy that everyone else seems to know about on every subreddit. How am I so out of the loop???
No one knew him a week ago, don't fret. And no one will remember him a week from now.
454! Not too shabby!
Wow, best score ever. Would have been perfect if I hadn't mixed up my obstructionist democrats
Me too, and one of them isn’t even a Democrat anymore.
8/12, 367
9/12 395 oof
9/12, 407. I shouldn’t have been so quick on the draw about the Elizabeth Holmes question.
10/12 and if I hadn't sneezed I'd have won on points too!
Couch tour, fire and beers, smoking meats.
Currently sitting at n Kaikoura, New Zealand. It’s New Year’s Eve here. We’re going on a fishing charter this morning, then taking our camper van to the mountains to soak in some hot springs this evening. Hope you all have a good new years!
No traditions, usually in bed long before midnight like it is any other day.
As a kid, my parents would cook a specific meal and we would put photos from that year into albums.
Work has put me in view of a lot of holiday decorations. Seeing some of them start to come down is bittersweet. I have some good memories and some bad memories of the holiday season but I always enjoyed seeing everyone’s festive spirit even if I couldn’t fully feel what they did.
I’ll miss them but of course would we really appreciate it if we saw it all year round?
Fondue and Couch Tour (YEMSG!)
The only one I really have is eating peas and collards on NYD. I like those foods anyway, so it’s no big deal.
Going to The Roosevelt tonight! Got my heart set on a good time.
New Year’s Day Recovery Chili Fiesta at my friends’ house. Good people, good food, chill vibe.
Chill vibe or chili vibe? 🤔
Yes.
Well, I’m not sick, so that’s a big win. I may meet up with a friend tomorrow night. Or I may stay home and be in bed at 10. Time will tell.
My family typically upholds the pork and sauerkraut tradition for new years (honestly we’re grasping at straws with German heritage as I’m mostly Irish).
Figuring out new years plans - I think I’d prefer something low key as I’m not feeling festive this year.
Our annual tradition usually consists of my husband and me falling asleep before midnight, and our daughter taking over my social media accounts poking fun at us being asleep and her being bored. This year she’s thrilled to have plans, so husband and I are drawing straws to see who stays awake past midnight to drive her home.
No real traditions except we plan some nice meals and do a lot of cooking. Leaving this morning for OBX, maybe we'll make it to midnight in the beach house, maybe not.
i’m home sick again for the second day in a row 😭
Grapes. We each eat 12 grapes at midnight for good luck.
Non VCU grad here: Where can I get a VCU house flag w/pole?!
I had to do a quadruple take on this post...it's NYE...I'm screwed!
My plan is to drive back to RVA Sunday while playing the Mummers parade! IYKYK
I was thinking about going to the cone parade! I wonder if it's busy
Pre COVID there were probably 50 or so? Last year maybe 25. Hoping this year is bigger than ever.
Keep your head down once the gunfire starts.

Both of my parents have cancer so my doctor has been running labs to make sure that I am not at risk as well.
Did you know that you can have a good diet, exercise, healthyish lifestyle in general and still just have really bad genes? My heart sank when I read all of the deficiencies/disorders they have apparently diagnosed me with. Not a great way to end the year.
Hope you're all having a better day than I am.
Also - starting off the new year with change in your pocket. Never start a new year on empty.
