Is there anywhere in Richmond that offers complimentary diamond cleaning for engagement rings? My fiancé bought my ring online, and I could ship it back to where he bought it from to be cleaned, but it’d take like two weeks and I’d have to pay for shipping, and it feels like a hassle. I’d rather have the ring cleaned somewhere locally if that’s available. I know most places offer free cleanings if you bought the ring there, but wondering if any jewelry places will clean rings that weren’t purchased at their shop.

Cheap, easy, and you can use it for other things.

Old old jewelers trick is to boil it in water with a few drops of dish soap and a splash of vinegar for about ten minutes. The bubbles in the water loosen grime and body oils. Rinse under hot water with sink plugged and brush with a soft toothbrush. Repeat if necessary.

Warm water with a few drops of dish liquid. Let it soak for a few minutes. You can use a very soft bristled toothbrush on it too. Then rinse it off. (Use a clean toothbrush, and keep it just for cleaning your ring.)

Plug the drain in the sink before rinsing it off, to be safe.

Yeah, I have a baby toothbrush by the sink for that very purpose. Does fine.

Diamonds direct does. They said it takes about two hours depending on wait on the weekends and less during the week.

My rings were also from an online store and they cleaned them there for free.

My sis used to work in fine jewelry. She said it’s a good idea to get them to map your diamond and have them show you its unique characteristics before and after cleaning. You’ll pay for that service, but it’s a way to assure yourself they didn’t switch your diamond as it was being cleaned.

Diamonds Direct maybe? My wife also bought something like looks similar to a bleach pen on Amazon which works wonders according to her.

Buy some. They’re in the metal cleaning area of the cleaning products aisle in every grocery store. They’re cheap and last for a few years. Never pay for that service.

If you bought your ring at another place (online, to save money I’m guessing) you should expect to pay for the local services you are requesting. You chose to not support local in the first place and are now looking for handouts…buts thats just my opinion.

Go talk to Joe over at Sycamore Jewelers. They have (or used to, check) a program where you see pieces you like, they add it to your list, and your SO can come in and buy what you've already picked out. NOT a chain, LOCAL owners.

*complementary, unless you’re asking for places that charge to say nice things about your ring.

Diamonds are bullshit.

Edit: I'll be clearer. The entire diamond industry is a giant load of bullshit and fuck all the vapid slaves who support it. Yes that means you. Oh yeah, "Someone please do free work for me." Fuck off with that.

OP's fiance already purchased the ring, so rudely trashing their choice is incredibly pointless. Diamonds are an extremely durable stone for daily-wear jewelry pieces. It could be an ethically sourced lab grown diamond.
