I'm curled up watching football. What's everyone else up to tonight?
Cooking. Baking. Drinking.
I don't have covid, flu, strep throat or pneumonia visible on an xray, but I'm sick enough that the doc at Patient first gave me antibiotics and cough medicine. My whole body hurts, but yay vaccines!
Baking and baking. A little concerned about the Dominion email about conserving power usage but other than not doing laundry tonight that's about all I can cut out that'd be meaningful.
I was concerned about that, too. I’ve been a Dominion customer for about 5 years and have never received any kind of notice like that before.
Baking a cake for myself, ordering Chinese tomorrow.
We're binge watching drag race Canada vs the world with a bottle of prosecco. The presents are wrapped for tomorrow, in the morning we'll haul Boaty over to my mom's for Christmas day. Staying warm!
🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅
Making pozole and watching the footballs. The Vikes won earlier, so I'm satisfied. SKOL! I just made an arbol salsa that will burn your eyebrows off. Santa loves salsa.
Pleasantly warm from gingerbread stouts, watching football until it's time to make a vat of pasta and find a dumb holiday movie to fall asleep to. My husband and I are on our own this year due to silly work schedules, and while we miss our collective family chaos, the quiet celebration is kind of nice too.
Watching The Third Day on HBO with a glass of Christmas Morning while the hubs is quarantined upstairs (I’m still negative) with the Eagles game.
Jealous though because we just adopted a new bunny from RACC last Saturday and he (the bun) is also upstairs watching the Eagles game.
Fuck the holidays.
Back from overindulging at Maggianos. Melissa, the waitress, was absolutely fantastic. She made a good night together as a family even better. Props to Melissa.
Popping a bottle of champagne (not celebrating, just because) and mentally preparing myself for multiple stops for Christmas tomorrow. Happy holidays yall!
Im so full and stinky
Just make sure you take them all, don't want to contribute to the antibiotic resistant super bacteria numbers!
Appalachian Power sent their customers the same. The grid may just be taxed by the weather and holiday usage.
On the bright side, if push comes to shove, some can be assisted via other state groups, so at least we aren't Texas (which does not have such luxury).
Eating Hibachi!!
for anyone wondering it's Sakura Japanese steak house on W Broad St.
Drinking. Eating. Football.
It's only five days, and only one pill a day, so I think I will manage to take them! Of course, if I cough up a piece of lung then I make no promises ...
Not wearing pants and watching movies, doomscrolling, smoking weed, and playing Fallen Order.
Debating going out to a bar.
Sober and depressed (I can’t/don’t drink anymore). But eating lots of snacks and company is coming over.
Today I finally got around to creating a recipe for Brunswick stew to use up some squirrel. It turned out really good.
My plan if they end up with rolling blackouts is to pack up and drive up to Jersey tomorrow instead of Monday.
Go Birds!
... to use up some squirrel.
You can't just slide that in there like that. Like legit squirrel? If so, what does it taste like? Is there a lot of meat on it? Where do you get squirrel? The trees?
We need answers.
Chickens pot pie for the win.
We lost power in North Chesterfield about four hours ago. It’s just a few houses in the ‘hood impacted and they claim it will be back tonight. We had to finish cooking our dinner on the outdoor grill. It’s starting to get cold. Luckily we have a a fireplace
So do we need to drop our faucets again like last night?
Pozole and football here too. Trying green pozole for the first time. Not quite sure how this is different from chile verde with hominy but it sure smells good. Feliz Navidad.
I hope your friends/company brings you some joy. Merry Christmas!
Despite all their controversy recently, this is a place gas stoves have a leg up. Growing up my parents had a gas stove and I remember more than a couple occasions where we were still cooking despite the power being out.
We just put our little one down for bed, it's the first Christmas Eve, at four years old, that she's ABOUT SANTA. Spent ten min putting out cookies, milk and iced tea out for Santa and a few carrots and a bowl of water for the reindeer.
Enjoying the wood stove, some homegrown, and a flan from my family's dinner earlier.
The idea of a bun watching football is the cutest thing I’ve imagined in a while.
Chilling tonight, cooking all the things tomorrow. The cold has put a temporary kibosh on plans today but tomorrow will be filled with Christmas cheer. Just finished the last Harry Potter movie and am moving on to something else now.
Did most of my baking yesterday, so you're welcome Dominion. Had planned one more batch of cookies but I think we have plenty. May make them for new years. Heat is on gas so no concerns there. Cats are enjoying the hot radiators. Probably Christmas movies this evening.
It can be a terrible time of year. Sorry you’re feeling lousy. I’ve gone decades feeling the same way. Hope you feel better.
In the Richmond for Xmas for the first time in 33 years; spending it with four generations of family and about 200 pounds of boxers (dogs not athletes) who sit on me whenever possible
Smoked a butt for the company that was supposed to be here but canceled, win/win situation. No heat pump usage today at all. Fireplace has kept this place hotter than usual. I have a raised pond outside, about 400 gallons, and just keep the pump on circulating that water. Starting to look pretty cool and the pipe which is totally exposed to the elements is flowing free and clear, can see the silhouette of the fish occasionally.
I find the taste and texture to be very reminiscent of turkey or dark chicken. After I pick out the bones, there's about 3-4 ounces of meat on each squirrel. I get them from my yard or the woods behind my house. They are stupidly over-populated out here so the meat is a side effect of culling them so that they aren't so destructive.
Excellent!
God bless Melissa.
Hang in there, homie.
In my experience, mediocre chicken.
Covid shot just absolutely knocked me on my ass. Haven’t been able to keep food down in 48 hours and feeling real grinchy about it all. Tried to make a dinner for everyone in the house but it smells like food so I can’t even go into the kitchen at this point.
Just made some dinner and am about to make Santa some herbal cookies. Sending my Chinese food order in now, for pick up tomorrow!
*tucks hair behind ear
My oncall weekend so sitting in my office here waiting to see if I need to take over any problems.
Vegan eggnog and Die Hard as is tradition.
I hope it turns out great! I usually prefer rojo just because I love the flavor of guajillos so much, but all pozole is delicious. I love how simple it is, but at the same time so many complex flavors and textures with all the accoutrements. We had tamales earlier, so we're feliz navidading it up like crazy over here!
In Texas seeing my sister and niece and nephew. It’s COLD down here. It makes my heart hurt thinking about all of the unhoused who are unprepared for this cold.
Thinking about ya friend, hang tight. I hope you can find some happiness in your company
I love that Santa gets milk AND tea
Awww. That sounds delightful! Enjoy the magic that Christmas brings when you have a little one. Their wonderment and excitement is pure joy to witness!
Here come the meat sweats.
Just wait till morning. Have a magical Christmas!
Watching home alone in Rockport, Mass with the wife and dog! Merry Xmas from our airbinbuh
Decorating cookies and yelling at the kid to get ready for bed.
Melissa 2024!
They've now sent three of these over the past 24 hours. This may be the first email from Dominion that's not "your bill is ready."
We put out milk, oranges (oops no cookies!) and a carrot for the reindeer. Merry Christmas!
🎅
Getting holiday pay.
Just went around and shut down or turned off all the extra stuff due to that email. Hopefully it will get a little warmer soon!!
Just got the kids to bed after watching both Christmas episodes of Bluey (a favorite of our house). Wrapping the rest of the presents with my spouse while we watch old SNL skits. Keeping the ol’ thermostat at the recommended 68 degrees.
Feeling a bit blue, but trying to look forward to the new year with optimism. Watching Alice in Borderland on Netflix.
Sweet Melissa
You ever have spares. My husband would love it
We made mocktails at dinner and they were phenomenal. Didn't miss the booze at all.
Had Wigilia (traditional Polish Xmas Eve dinner) then watched ‘8 Bit Christmas.’ Merry Xmas everyone!
Sorry, hope you have a better time!
Sweet baby MelMel she is truly an angel
Yeah, I've got at least 7 or 8 more in the freezer right now. I periodically cull them throughout the year so I usually have at least a few at any given time.
Big up. Sending you love.
My wife and I watched Klaus on Netflix and bawled our eyes out. Definitely recommended for a feel good Christmas movie.
Mine is 3. She's excited, but it wasn't until a well meaning grocery clerk at Kroger asked if she was setting out milk and cookies, did she get Really excited. So I wasn't planning to do that yet, but we made a batch of chocolate chip cookies before I headed to work tonight. I'm just glad to be off, tips were decent, and we got out on time. Dad and I are having a late dinner, cleaning up and watching RPDR, then being Santa and putting everything out by the tree. Edit: we also have some home grown we got as a gift!
Dude mine’s four and it took an extra 30 minutes to get her to bed bc she’s so excited. My better half and I brought in the power wheel we built a week ago and hid under the house. Playing Santa is so much more fun when the magic is in their eyes.
Oh I'm so happy for you! It's quite an honor to get to experience the holidays through the eyes of your child! That's THE BEST!!! Enjoy and treasure every moment of it all! ✨️
I’m glad you’ve got friends coming over!
Anyone know where I can find a Turboman action figure? Missed my sons karate recital and really need to make it up to him. All I can find is Booster.
Hey OP, you see that 61 yard kick today??
Absolute bomb, one of the few field goals that made it in today!
I'm a little disturbed by the bun possibly cheering for the Eagles, but I don't know who they're playing, so maybe the alternative is worse? I love you, Bunny!
Aww my bunny is hopping around watching tv too. They are the best pets!
Making cinnamon buns , the cat is in his Xmas sweater curled up, and my partner is playing jingle bells on his guitar 🎸 it’s our first Xmas in Richmond and it’s cold but we’re cozy and happy 🎄
I’m just checking r/all and loving the response of people to the “news” about TikTok “spying.” Hilariously, there’s bipartisan support in congress to shut down TikTok and bipartisan yawning at the politicians’ outrage.
Pozole and football here too!!
SKOL from a fellow Vike
Thinking about going to midnight mass. Any suggestions?
Fun! Which xmas snl skit is your current fave?
I've thrown half a tree in the fireplace and gotten the living room up to 82°. Wife is happy
Some people brought homemade tamales over. So that makes me happy
Huh. Did not get that email I wonder if it's substation by substation
Congratulations on your sobriety that's impressive
Either “Dick In A Box” or Delicious Dish for sure
These are such sweet moments. I miss this so much!!!

Easy trip from RVA to Baltimore this evening thanks to light traffic while driving during holiday / Saturday dinner time. 8yo nephew is soundly asleep, cookies and carrots have been nibbled on, and gifts are placed under the tree. Looking forward to tomorrow morning!!!
I think i get what you're saying, but i had a surprisingly hard time following that last sentence😅 must be time for bed
I've never seen a cat in a sweater, which i assumed was due to cats generally not being as compliant as dogs
Wesołych Świąt!
I spent the day playing dwarf fortress to forget that my apartment has no running water. I'm hoping the problem just sort of takes care of itself, but... That's unlikely. At least there's a spare apartment I can use to shower and refill my gallon jug.
Why do you have that?
Edited that bojangly sentence. Must be my bedtime too.
Back home he’ll always run
Have you gotten any of their other emails about the winter weather yesterday or the day before?
My pipes are frozen as well. Argh
Son got a stomach ache and threw up this afternoon, so our plans got canceled and we watched ultimate beastmaster for a while. Hoping that he feels better tomorrow. I’m absolutely loving this weather. Wish it would stay like this all winter!
I’m ordering Chinese tomorrow too. Love not cooking. 👵🏻
Genuine question - how are squirrels destructive?
& What is your weapon against them, pellet gun? Do they make a good stock or broth?
Sorry to hear about your kid, I also hope he feels better. As for the weather, I enjoyed it for a few hours yesterday but I've been extremely done with it since then.
We’re standing here, watching the fireworks someone is shooting off from our window. At the same time, the “Neighbors” app is blowing up: Is iT gUnShOtS?!??
I'm down in central NC and surprised at how disruptive this cold weather has been. The utility was doing rolling blackouts this morning due to high demand and we had at least 2 households in the family without electricity for many hours.
I'm a little concerned about our house in Richmond. Mostly the water pipes but also if the power has gone out my poor cat would be so cold.
For their squirrel stew. The main ingredient in squirrel stew is the squirrel
My primary issue with them is that they eat most of the produce out of our garden (especially tomatoes; the second there's any red on them at all, they take them). They will also nest in the house if they can make a way in, though that has only happened once (to my knowledge) so far.
In moderation squirrels aren't bad at all. I am quite fond of them, actually. Around my house, though, their population was outrageous. To put it into perspective, I have taken around 50 just out of my yard over the last 2 years and there are still at least a dozen just directly around my house, without needing to even go into the woods or the other yards in the neighborhood. I am fine with this population, though, as they are no longer a nuisance so I only cull to keep the population in check anymore.
Edit: Sorry, forgot to answer your other questions. Yeah, I use a pellet gun to take them. They make a surprisingly gelatinous stock but I havent tasted it, honestly. I would expect it to be similar to chicken stock, though, judging by the smell and color. Turns to jello when you refrigerate it.
Now that you mention it they do that to my tomatoes too. They just come take one bite then leave them.
That is such a great show! I'm really glad Netflix renewed it for a second season. I hope the show made you feel a bit better!
Yep, that's exactly what they did with mine. Nothing would deter them so I decided to cull them. I have a personal guideline that I will use as much as I can from anything I kill so we began eating them. My wife was making leather from the skins as well but she stopped because there's just not that much we can do with it.
I just built my first power wheel yesterday, I feel this energy!
Will you hide the dead man’s ghost?
Me either. I haven’t gotten any emails from them since my “your bill is ready” earlier in the week.

Right now I'm patiently waiting for the figgy pudding to finish boiling so I can shower and go to bed. It's been a rough 2 days- lost power for a chunk of yesterday, pipes froze overnight, two relatives decided to skip Christmas because of the weather and hubby was in a minor car accident this afternoon. We gave up and decided to spend the night at my parents' house. But the presents are wrapped, the pudding is almost done and tomorrow will be a good day (it better be!)
No I haven't but I do get Bill emails.
A although for all I know they went to spam
Oh God squirrels are horribly destructive. I hate the f****** so much. They love to chew on things ideally the most expensive thing especially electrical wiring or Plumbing
They are like big furry termites
No power issue in museum district so far that I have seen
Getting a friend to check your pipes would be a good idea though
Also for squirrel tacos. My wife is more partial to those whereas I prefer the stew.
Came home from visiting family in a different city to my pipes burst in the kitchen. I was crying with my 10 month old, fire department was here for three hours and now I don’t feel like wrapping the rest of my baby’s gifts. And now my floors swollen.
I just recovered from the same. Body aches. Mild fever. Cough. No strep, flu, covid, and clear chest X-rays. 5 day z pack on antibiotics and cough syrup with sideline. Knocked me for a loop. Hope you recover quickly!
Hang in there. I've been sober 10 months and yea it sucks at the holidays. Alot of people dont understand how difficult it is on a daily basis when it is merchandised basically everywhere you look. Stay strong for you and enjoy the holidays as best you can.
Hope you feel better soon!
Now I want gingerbread stout and loads of pasta. I guess it'll have to wait until I get home. In the meantime I'll settle for plenty of rum and some mofongo!
Can't get enough of those Schweddy Balls!
I'm not gonna lie. I'm just sad. I'm happy for everyone else but truly... just sad.
He actually gets super cuddly and purr’s when he has one on 😂 but he is the first cat I’ve had that enjoys a sweater in the winter 🥶
Aww he's adorable
