Running from the police, drugs, alcohol I would assume could have something to do with how they flipped their car on Main Street

I'll never forget seeing a car in a tree in the median of 295 just east of Nuckhols Rd. That took talent and speed. I've also seen a flipped car on Springfield. I thought it was just people around the west end being impatient.

It’s because people treat Main/Ellwood like the downtown expressway

We’ve all driven in Miami and Maryland and though they are crazy, they are more predictable. In Richmond you never know who is a crazy driver and who is normal and who is trying to compensate for the high number of crazy drivers which then it turn causes their own driving to be erratic. Then you have to do all of this while being tailgated and with another person just chilling in your blind spot.

I swear it's a TikTok trend with the frequency I see this happening.

Yo that was wild. A group of us bicyclists pulled up on that shit minutes after it happened and assessed the situation realizing it was fresh and the whole block of tbe neighborhood who heard it had already came out to help manage crawling him out and sit him down before the fire department and ems even showed up. We kind of split up marshaling the intersections from any thru traffic and when first responders pulled up we started to pull out. As we were going by on the side walk we saw the vehicle had clipped the corner of a parked car that had catapulted him for that flip all the while fire department didn't even talk to anyone and got axes to rip open the car doors to assess injuries and clear any occupants but then were like where are they??

Insane thing to see after our really quiet holiday ride on our way back into town

Just about every city in the country is saying that.

Data from the NFIRS (fire department reporting system) shows that accidents have skyrocketed in past 36 calendar months nationally. Probably globally.

Less driver education, less restrictions(like relaxed laws), less punishment, and societal stress have made it pretty common

I saw a girl flip her car on the highway a few months back, saw it from the bridge that’s by Little Mex, what’s crazy is there was absolutely NO ONE around her, she flipped so badly that her car was flipping on the WALL, not even on the ground, crazy she survived, not sure if she was texting or something but DEFINITELY distracted. I’ve never seen a car flip on a wall before. Was like a movie for sure.

About 10 years ago someone t-boned my parked Prius on this block. I still wonder how he managed to get his car perfectly facing my side on a one way street. The folks at City Dogs saw and offered me free lunch while I waited for a tow, at least!

I live downtown and driving here has been ridiculous lately. People dive bombing 3-4 lanes to make an exit, watched a guy try to haul ass in the right lane on Main Street downtown to get around left lane traffic and he smacked a street parked car, people blow by the stop signs on the blocks adjacent to Main Street. I know pointing out bad driving is a common thread throughout the country, but damn the amount of people who are looking at their phones while driving is insane. Makes me wonder why there isn’t more regulations into driving. 45,000 gun deaths (54% suicide) and 46,000 vehicle deaths in 2021. Va passed a law where police can’t pull over vehicles with a few lights out, it has to be all the lights. Registrations can be expired for up to 60 days before tickets can sent out. I just don’t get it. I haven’t seen anything quite like the audacity of this area, I came from San Diego. I also lived in Va Beach and Roanoke Virginia. Besides how bad 81 can be, Richmond has to have the most unpredictable drivers of all time. Honestly it’s a national issue, all these required documents, laws, and ordinances just for leeway on poor maintenance and the same percentage of DUIs and distracted driving annually. Don’t know about you guys but I wouldn’t mind traffic violations and poorly maintained vehicles to have 1000% stricter penalty. Driving is very simple and so is most maintenance. Can’t afford to keep your vehicle optimal, then don’t cost us injury or death because you are irresponsible. I’m no mechanic and I don’t make a lot of money, youtube is full of tutorials for almost every make and model. I noticed Chesapeake Va has digital speed limit signs that take photos of speeders in real time, also flags them if the vehicle is stolen or there are warrants on the owner. Hope these signs go everywhere. 2 friends have had major setbacks in their life due to distracted drivers and recklessness. Sorry for the tangent. Get dashcams and don’t skimp insurance. It’s a matter of when in Richmond not if.
