Fox News Richmond and NBC 12 have mostly the same staff. Not sure why it’s set up this way, Im guessing Richmond just isn’t a big enough city to support 3 separate stations: NBC, ABC, and Fox. I’m guessing Fox outsources to NBC for broadcasting.

Bet she doesn’t get paid 2x. That’s the bigger question. Two networks should get double pay right?

Similar in Chatlottesville. NBC / CBS / FOX all under the same umbrella here and houses in the same building. Seems like the entry point for those in the industry as they plan their next step being the RVA market.

Bc NBC12 and Fox Richmond are both owned by the same company, Gray Media. They’re both broadcast in the same stayion

Unrelated to this, she has one of the better golf swings I’ve ever seen. Just completely natural, I’m jealous.

Probably run under some sort of Joint Operating Agreement. That’s relatively common for newspapers where there’s a morning and evening paper in the same location owned by seperate media companies. The presses are usually owned and operated by the JOA. Tucson and Detroit both used to have JOAs.

"On September 19, 1994, NBC affiliate WWBT (then owned by the Jefferson-Pilot Corporation) entered into a news share agreement with WRLH. This resulted in a nightly prime time newscast being launched on WRLH known as Fox News at 10"

Hi, former employee of the station. Simply put, FOX Richmond (WRLH) is owned by Sinclair, they have a long standing partnership with NBC 12 (WWBT, owned by Gray Television) to produce newscasts on their channel. Same staff, same studio, just different graphics essentially. I never fully understood the agreement, but that’s the simple answer.

If you have ever lived in or visited large markets, the FOX affiliates there usually have complete newsrooms and commit probably 4-6 hours of their time to live news coverage. In little old Richmond, that's not the case. WLRH (Sinclair-owned FOX) has had WWBT (Gray-owned NBC) contracted out to do their 10 pm news. I believe at some point in history the FCC required all over the air stations to produce 1 hour of news coverage daily to keep their signal.

Somewhat related, WUPV / Richmond's CW affiliate used to do a broadcast of local news. Gray owns that affiliate and the WWBT newsroom produced that as well. Not really related, it will be interesting to see what happens with the CW in the future. Nexstar, the company that owns WRIC (Richmond's ABC), owns what used to be WGN-America and is now Newsnation Prime. They own a large number of CW affiliates and bought a majority stake in the CW company recently as well. I imagine they will attempt to buy the WUPV from Gray at some point if they change materially change what programs the CW.

I have not watched more than 5 consecutive minutes of local broadcast news in a decade but my mind is a prison for useless knowledge.

One company owns both and so they like radio will have employees do multiple jobs. That said they might not pay them for the multiple jobs.

My brother worked for nbc12, their studio also does foxes. They literally turn the same cameras around and point them at a different wall. with the fox stuff on them.

This is commonplace, down here in Hampton Roads news 3 staff work on three of our local stations.

If she's NBC and FOX, they share news teams for some reason. IDK why?
