TBH when I first moved to Richmond, I thought the 804 number was goofy AF because I associated it with the toll free number of 800. But I’ve gotten used to it now and it’s so easy to say.

From the article it sounds like 703 is the OG Richmond

I’m still rocking my 919 area code, but I wouldn’t mind having an 804 as well. I’ve tried a Google number, but I want something that is seamlessly integrated. Anybody have a suggestion on a cheap way to have an 804 number without ditching my 919 one?

703 is NoVA. that's what i grew up with.

Lots of cell phones support two SIM chips. If yours is one, go buy a second chip and run both numbers at once.

No he’s right. 703 was the very first area code for VA so it really doesn’t s the original area code for RVA. It has just shrunk in footprint over time to just NOVA and did so before cell phones. Thus you don’t see any evidence of it outside of NOVA

Local Electrical Union (IBEW) is 666. I might stick with being an electrician just for that.

If I have an 804 number, does that give me credit towards no longer being a Yankee carpet bagger?

To add to that good idea, some phones also accept eSIMs, so no second SIM slot or second physical SIM needed.

Our area code in Fredericksburg changed from 703 to 540 when I was a kid, right after I'd memorized my phone number. That would have been in the early 90s.

I am so confused why so many people lose their number and have to change it, I am sticking with my 804 as long as I can and if there was a way to get my first original number from when I moved to VA I would totally do it.

It interesting that when they added a code in VA that they went with 804. The original numbering plan had area codes with ‘0’ as the middle digit to be assigned to an entire state, and codes with ‘1’ in the middle to be for a portion of a state.
Until I just looked it up, I had always thought it was the opposite because of VA having 804 and 703 when I was growing up.

Did the author not look at the map she linked? Not only does 804 go past King William, it is also pretty understandable why it covers the Northern Neck. Very strange editorializing.
