Richmond's Leaf Collection?

Hey everyone!

This is my first autumn season living in a house with four *massive* trees in our yard. I have so many leaves and don't know what to do with them. We know about the Richmond leaf collection, which is $30/pick up. The flyer says, "Make sure leaves are raked to the curb or property line but not into the street or gutter". We have a parking spot in the back on our property and it can be easily accessed -- the trash and recycling are also disposed of in the alley as well. Does anyone know if I can put the leaves in the back parking spot, or do they need to be on the front curb for pick up? Any and all information is helpful!

This is the answer. I paid like $500 last year for kids to blow and a truck to vacuum. This year I've been mulching in place one every week or so and it's great. Lazy and biologically beneficial.

The City will not vacuum leaves in any alley. Must be out front.

I believe they would need to be in the front since the vacuum truck is pretty massive. But you can also mow/shred them and leave them in place (great for your soil!), compost them (either yourself or bring them to a composting dropoff spot) or you can bag them and put them out for regular trash pickup.

For what it’s worth I got stuck behind one of those trucks that vacuums up leaves and I watched him drive slowly close to the curb and not actually vacuum any leaves

Leaves are a natural nutrient source for your yard, so leaving them has benefits. Unless you absolutely have to get rid of them, your yard will be happier next spring

Last year the city would take clear bags from next to your supercan. But you should leave as much as ya can(for the ecosystem) and or mow mulch em(for free fertilizer). I grab neighbors leaves to compost and if ya ask around there might be someone nearby that would be super stoked to take em from you.
