I don't understand the petition. What stopped these performances? Are they trying to find a new spot because it says they are looking for somewhere larger near Gallery 5.
Disclaimer: I am neither in PLF nor am I a G5 member. I consider both groups to be in my friend circle and am sharing their petition.
I'd be out of turn to share my perspective of the details that lead to the fire performances being shut down, but those reasons are not the focus of the petition anyhow. The main focus is to drum up community support and awareness regarding the event (carnival of 5 fires) and to quantify its relevance.
Yeah, I'm with you: I can't sign this mostly because I am given no insight into why this stopped. Are you petitioning G5 to do this after they made a decision they didn't want this group performing anymore? If so, why? Did the city shut it down because of a safety concern? If so, I feel like it would be irresponsible for me to sign a petition without knowing what the safety concern/issue is. Like I just don't even understand WHO is being petitioned here.
I'm not trying to be an asshole, I just truly am asking because I think I'm missing something very elemental: if G5 wants to do this, and the performance group wants to do it, and the city is not stopping them from doing it, then what's the petition for/about? It sounds like everyone is on the same page.
This is like me petitioning that the NFL play some football games this Sunday and someone put them on television.
... We're looking at a couple of options around G5, BUT as we move forward to organize bringing the fire arts back,we need YOU to give us some love to show how much this artform is appreciated (and missed) by the masses. We're looking at the usual 2 First Fridays of April and October 2023 to BRING THE FIRE BACK!...
I did not create this petition; these are friends and I'm just trying to help with something I believe in. My understanding is that this is primarily intended to gauge community support to best plan future events. I'd expect that the results are used to justify both the event happening and the amount of space permitted. While I believe that all major parties involved (G5, PLF, neighbors) are supportive, that doesn't always translate to a sure thing. This is a way to collect how many folks support fire arts at G5 and feedback from the community.
