So I have really simple straight, fine, thin hair. I was getting it cut at Salon 1213 and loved it there because I had a complicated short pixie. Well now my hair it should length and I just need a basic trim. Last time I went to 1213 I spent $75 on a trim and I just don’t find it worth it. What I’m looking for: a decent salon that is better than Hair Cuttery, but won’t charge out the ass for a very basic trim.

You might have good luck at Luminary in church hill!

No professional salon I have found recently is charging less than $40 for a women's trim. Thats even for the least experienced stylist they have. I only get my hair cut like 4x a year so I don't mind paying $50 for someone to do a good job on a basic trim though

Pine Street Barber is the cheapest salon I've found above Hair Cuttery. Lately I've gone to Birch Salon and I've been pleased with their prices!

I have similar hair as you and just got a great cleanup cut from Audrey at Circle Square Salon for $55. She managed to make it bouncy without adding weird layers 🙏🙏 obviously not super cheap but definitely reasonable

I used to go to salon academies when I was in school to save $$$ on a cut but haven’t had any luck finding one in Richmond. Could be another option!

I have had good experiences with stylists at both Birch and Parlor. I typically ask for a junior stylist and confirm that their rate is within my budget. ETA: currently paying $55 for a haircut

I haven't cut my hair in years. Would highly recommend. No regrets and lots of savings. ;-)

Beyond the Fringe, it's about $55 for a haircut, wash and style. Kyleigh there does a great job with my fine hair

My wife and I both go to Elizabeth at hair motif, below refuge for men.

I’d recommend Beyond Bangz or Luxe Hair in Mechanicsville. Getting a bit out of the city definitely brings prices down a lot.

Hair Cuttery is not all bad. Erica at the one in Carytown is a delight.

I got tired of the atmosphere of the fancier salons… I’m glad they exist because some people really value the experience at those… but they give me bad anxiety.

Erica is no nonsense but she is a great stylist.

Moore Street Studio is great! The salon is super cozy and the owner is so nice! Bonus they have two sweet dogs.
