Their website lists one upcoming event in November. Nothing is listed for 2023. Even the Richmond Coliseum had something every once and a while.

I don’t think their website is all that up to date on events. There was a Dinosaur thing this weekend and other event sites (https://www.eventbrite.com/d/va--richmond/convention-center/) list things hosted their in 2023
Tons of private events and competitions like volleyball, cheerleading, etc that are of no real interest to anyone but the competitors and their families.
Does it list anime ink that's happening this weekend?
Agree. We’re there 2-3 times a year for dance competitions and there’s always other events going on when we’re there.
It’s owned by the City, Richmond, and Henrico. So not exactly the same method of operation as a typical business. There are lots of private and corporate events held there though so not necessarily things that would be listed for the public.
IMO there is no excuse not to have an updated website anymore. It usually means skimping on (either) paying for their website services in general, or jobs related to that for their business.
Not just a website issue, they are incredibly unreliable, maybe due to staffing issues? I contacted them multiple times and ways over a year-long period to host a conference in 2024 and never got a response. Hopefully they'll get better soon!
As others posted it’s packed with corporate, private, and or vendor run events that are not public. Several weekly.
The core of no public events is mostly due to cost. The event space is expensive compared to other potential options around the city. Festivals and other events have charity (and profit) aspects at times that another venue would garner better gains. Such as outdoors is always cheaper as there no HVAC or facility cost. I.e. many food festivals are held on church’s land outdoors that are donated.
Logistics as well. Downtown Convention center many times keeps some away as parking and other items in downtown (such as having to pay for garage parking).

Probably private events.
