Beautiful sunrise a little while ago! I've been waking up a smidge earlier the last few days and been able to watch the sunrise. Helps to start my day in a good mood. What's your good mood day starter?

Talk amongst yourselves.

It's my birthday! My mom brought my favorite cake over last night (yellow cake with chocolate frosting and sprinkles), so eating cake for breakfast will be a good start to my day. :)

Not to be crass, but legitimately there is no better way to start the day than with a satisfying BM.

I prefer to wait until I clock in for maximum bm enjoyment. It’s always better when you’re getting paid

Unless someone calls in a fire right when you start! You have no idea what you’re capable of until that happens. Literally found some internal strength a few years ago.

But absolutely accurate if I worked in an office

I’m super irritable in the morning until I drag myself out of bed to walk my dog, then I’m golden. I love seeing the sunrise and hearing the birds chirp their morning songs.

Nothing like a morning walk and a bit of light exposure to shake off the morning drag.

I'm really into birds now because of the Merlin app so I open the window and do a bit of bird watching every morning with my coffee. This is supposed to be a free hobby because money is tight but I've already bought some bird seed. I see a few birdhouses in my backyards future. Are there any truly free hobbies?

8

Herculicia t1_jeezv49 wrote

I LOVE THE MERLIN APP!!!! What a slippery slope it's been! I saw a bird one day and couldn't figure out what it was and after much googling I downloaded the app so I'd be prepared next time I saw a cool bird. I've learned so much over the last two years with it, and it's really cool to use while traveling! It's only a matter of time before I become a full on birder.

4

Ms-Pamplemousse t1_jeelnnp wrote

The birds have upped their seed intake so much recently. It was a bag a month in the winter, now it's more like a bag a week. Maybe 1.5 weeks.

3

ImmobilizedbyCheese t1_jeetaar wrote

It's best not to think about a monthly cost of bird seed. I guess I'm not paying for, say, a gym membership so I use that to justify how much I spend on the wee beasties.

2

orthologousgenes t1_jeekdpi wrote

I’ve been enjoying the merlin app too! I love being able to identify the birds by their calls.

I've been sick for going on close to 10 days now and I'm tired as hell of it being chilly. Just to bring the mood down in the daily a bit. I'm starting to forget what not being congested feels like

I’m going to Cup Sunday but did go to all 3 back in august last year! It’ll be a fun weekend for sure and those Mod drivers get a bit of the spotlight. They’re some hardworking folks.

I'm so excited. We really look forward to race weekends. Gonna have a few friends come along too.

I'm way late on this fascinating discovery, but my partner told me yesterday that the scientists say you should wait until about an hour after waking up to have caffeine. Otherwise it overloads your cortisol production and causes you to crash. When you wait, you're effectively letting your natural processes wake you up, then augmenting them with the additional kick from caffeine. Gotta say, waiting ~30 more minutes for my cup of tea isn't terribly enjoyable, but I appreciate the science behind it!

A not-so fascinating discovery is that my neighborhood seems to have a glut of new Japanese honeysuckle coming up, including a significant section of new growth in my yard. So. That's a fun project I didn't need. I didn't realize how easily its spread by birds.

The boygenius record and film dropped at midnight. I told myself I'd wait until this morning to listen and watch, but I was awake at 11pm and decided to stay up for the release. I'm tired. I loved the film, I think I'm gonna need a few more listens of the album though. The singles are great but I'm not in love with the rest of it yet.

Took my (overdue) car to the shop this morning for an inspection. I have such bad car anxiety where it’s either gonna be like $50 or $5,000 and I never know where I’m gonna land. My next big adult task will be to stop ghosting my dentist.

Finished putting together a Lego flower bouquet last night which is bringing me joy to look at while WFH today. I have a call with a client later (I hate phone calls) but otherwise just click clacking away!

You can do it! Some dentists will prescribe you something for anxiety if you have someone to drive you home, depending on what you need done.

New neighbor next door is taking down ancient giant dead and mostly dead trees that the prior neighbor refused to address - despite huge branches falling all over her property and ours every time the wind blew. The largest one is perilously close to our house and the neighbor behind us. Fingers crossed that it’s coming down today as well!!

EDIT: New neighbor is not taking down the biggest deadest tree because it’s too expensive and she doesn’t believe it’s that bad. I low key want a giant wind storm to blow through today while the tree guys are here so she can see how badly that tree sways in the wind and how many limbs come down. Just wait until she discovers, first hand, how badly damaged her brand new Audi Q7 will be when the acorns rain down on it this fall.

I am so not a morning person. I tell my partner that every time I wake up in the morning I feel like I'm being hatched out of an egg. It takes me hours to get going. And I don't drink or stay up late or have any really bad habits I just am not a person who wakes up good in the morning. This morning was particularly heinous as my bedroom door fell off the hinges when I opened it. Door is now fixed, still fuzzy headed.

My good mood starter is first coffee. Then followed by my daily snuggle with my pup on the couch. First I give him scratches. Then he paws at me to go under the blanket I'm using. It's his way of making me try to stay home all day. He's 60lbs so he takes up most of my part of the couch but it's fine. It brings me so much happiness each morning.

Where do the mid/late 20s hang out in this city? I've lived here my whole life and went to VCU, but I feel like all the spots I know are the ones in The Fan that are mostly populated by VCU students. Want to get myself into more environments with people my age (even if I don't immediately meet people, just being around similar aged people with similar goals and lifestyles is super motivating), main one I've found so far is the VMFA/lawn. Secondarily, some good recs for reading/studying spots (especially ones that stay open late) would be nice.

Drove to Wilson, NC this morning to visit the sweetest lady ever. She was our housekeeper growing up. She always tells me that when I was a little girl, I would pack a bag every Friday because I wanted to go home with her. She is 97 now and lives in a nursing home. Before she had to move into the nursing home, I would drive down and spend the weekend with her. Dreams do come true!
