I have a teenager with an upcoming spring concert and he's asked me for help getting him a suit. In the past, he's gotten suits from Walmart since he grew too quickly to spend good money. Now, he wants something a little better.

I love suits from 707, but that's way outside of the price range we're trying to hit. Is Men's Wearhouse or Jos A. Bank any good now? Are there other affordable options in Richmond?

Local shops would take priority in my mind. I searched before posting, and most posts seem to be adults getting suits for themslves and spending more money. I'm trying to stay within the <300 range but can go up if that's not feasible at all.

Macy's in Short Pump has a decent selection right around that price. Better than Men's Wearhouse or Jos. A. Bank in my opinion.

Franco's most inexpensive suits come in right around $400 mark but are a better value for the quality you are getting.

I'm not sure how it is now that they were sold to another company, but the Brooks Brothers outlet in Williamsburg always did me right with suits that look good and won't break the bank...

Burlington coat factory and then getting it tailored. Honestly anything plus tailoring will look better than expensive suits off the rack. Especially if your teenage is weird shaped

You could take him to Off Sak's if you dnt mind heading up to PM. They will have very nice suits for very little $$. Lots of good tailors in the RVA area as well. My neighbor is one as a matter of fact.

If you want to go crazy, grab a ticket to NYC and hit Century 21. Its the place everyone always talks about where you can pick up designer suits/fashion in general that would retail for thousands of dollars for a few hundred. (prob more of a future thought for his adulting suits.) I loved shopping there when we'd visit. Always came away with Versace, Dolce Gabanna, Armani..

Honestly the best way I've found to get a nice suit on the cheap is to get one on eBay and then have it tailored. I used to have to wear suits for work, and being the cheap sort, this is what I did.

You can get cool vintage designer suits this way.

I would get ones roughly my size (not smaller) on eBay and take them to Hong Kong Tailors on Broad st.

I got Armani suits, Hugo Boss etc for under $100 a piece this way, including the tailoring.

A suit has to be tailored to look good anyway, so why not get 'em used?

Francos in lakeside may be able to help you. I got my wedding suit there for 700 dollars. And it wasn’t the lowest end. And they will tailor it for free.

Buy a suit of clearance and get it tailored. Will look twice as good for half the price

Another option if you need a quick one-off is get a 2 piece from H&M. Put you back less than $150 and quick in a pinch. I think they only have black though. Plus H&M has a “cooler” brand than Wally World so he might not even know the difference 😆

What’s your budget and timeline? Indochino makes great budget friendly custom suits. They don’t have a local brick and mortar but you can order a fully custom suit online if you know or can get your teens measurements. I believe the closest physical store is in Nova.

For a teen, who will rarely wear it? I’d hit men’s warehouse or jos a bank, get a twofer or somethin.

Spier & Mackay. Great suits for the price. They have the basics which start at $300. Avoid black.

I always recommend them for people on a budget and have a number of items myself.

I was at men’s warehouse the other day and they had full suits on clearance for like $120. Get that, and then get it tailored. They’ll make it look great. Good luck!

Jos a bank can sometimes have 60-200 dollar suits. Brooks brother’s brooksgate line are often 300 on sale, but I would NOT go to the one in Stony Point.

Men’s warehouse and JABank are all in the same company.

It all depends on if your version of quality tailoring, body type etc

Men's Wearhouse, Andre Emilio and Jos A. Bank are both popular options for low-to-mid range men's suits. They offer a wide selection of suits and have locations across the country, including in Richmond. While the quality may not be as high as some more expensive brands, they are a good option for a teenager who may still be growing and needs an affordable suit.

Another option to consider in Richmond is Dillard's. They offer a variety of suit brands at affordable prices, and they have a location in the Short Pump Town Center.

If you're open to shopping online, there are also several affordable suit options, such as J.Crew Factory, H&M, and ASOS. These retailers offer a range of suits at lower prices, but it's important to note that the quality may not be as high as more expensive brands.

Regardless of where you shop, it's important to make sure the suit fits well and is appropriate for the occasion. Consider taking your teenager to a store to get measured and try on suits to find the best fit and style for him.
