This is actually going to be tough for you because RIC is a nice little airport that most people never complain about. I suppose if anything's a bummer, at least in the circumstances of what you're writing, it's that there are limited food options available during off hours.

Lol. Try landing at 8pm hungry as shit to see every dining option closed. After a long day of travel that can be one negative too many for some.

Tell me about it. I usually arrive there close to 11pm and still have a 45 minute drive home. An open coffee bar would be glory...way better than having to go to Wawa.

Well my friend, I'm delighted to be the first to inform you about Country Style Doughnuts, the coffee is acceptable too.

Great, now I have to go get donuts! I hope you're happy with yourself. My doctor is going to be very disappointed in the decisions you've made in regard to my health.

You keep that Wawa slander to yourself!!

Nah man, no disrespect, I've got the Wawa app on my phone. It's just out of the way + another stop when I just want to get home.
BubbleWrapGuy t1_ja3v4qz wrote
I hear ya. I was just being silly + that Wawa gets a little wild after 10pm.

I gotta say, most airports are this way now. Almost everything in Boston Logan closes at 9

I don't think I've ever seen the restaurants at the center of the terminal open.

There are no scheduled commercial international flights out of RIC.
EDIT: Instead of downvoting me provide a link to a commercial international flight you can book.
Schmergenheimer t1_j9ywapc wrote
US customs is on base at the airport, meaning chartered or private flights can come in internationally. It's in the master plan to build the airport to support international 121 flights in the next few years too.
Big_Al56 t1_j9z1ku9 wrote
Yes, I get that. But there is currently no international commercial service that you can book.

Yes, I’m responding to the assertion that “RIC does have some seasonal international flights”, which is false.

The food options suck…..when they’re open. I’ve had some flights at odd hours and could only dream about the crappy food while staring at the closed shops. I think COVID played into the crappy hours for crappy food but it was an ironic situation

The good news from last year is in the near future, it'll be international again. It was originally covered under the Customs branch based in Atlantia (or one of those other deep southern states around there) but was moved to be under the jurisdiction run out of Baltimore. As part of that move, they announced that they would be improving and building new infrastructure for Customs Control to meet the standards that were put in place after 9/11, as what is currently there is inadequate hence the reason we don't have international flights scheduled in and out of the airport unless it's an indirect that passes through an airport that has these facilities. I'm not sure of the timeline, but when it happens it should help open up the market some, and be a boost for airport business...

They used to have flights to/from Toronto around 2009. I flew it once, it was on one of those small turboprops. Although I think back then Canada and the US had passport-free travel, but I might be wrong.

A turbo prop all the way to Toronto? That must have been a long uncomfortable flight.

Agree, it's a bit of a ghost town in the off-hours of the day and you're on your own if you are tired or wishing for some coffee to help with jet lag or cheer you up when your bags are lost.
