6% this year in chesterfield county, 23% last year. Did you just buy the house? If you did and paid a high price, the county is going to adjust accordingly

I’m in Lakeside and went up just under 10%. I’ve pretty much doubled since 2014.

Yeah…25% sucked. It’s gone up the past few years, but this was a huge jump.

My total went up, but the assessment on the house went down, while the land went up.

No worries, we'll get $60 back, probably. Mine was up around 16%.

Mine did too I’m in Henrico…not sure it’s even worth filing a grievance. I hope they are going to pay their teachers more with the extra money bloat.

My Lakeside spot went up 7.8% and reading these comments I’m feeling lucky.

Someone start shooting road signs in neighborhoods. Lower the property value for us please

This is the reverse of the argument that people who bought before the pandemic hit the lottery. Because our homes are more valuable, but we don’t get that money till we sell.

Yiiikes. I remember this happened in Lexington/Rockbridge county in the 2000’s. People were upset about how it was a loop hole for raising taxes.

Owned my home since 2001 (and have no intention of moving) but got hit with the 25% tax increase this year, too. I thought there was a cap on how much they could go up in a year? Maybe I'm remembering the olden days when I was in the city limits?

We had 11% last year and 6% this year. Has there been any new developments near you? It does appear they were all targeted adjustments

Funny that an argument against a wealth tax on billionaires is that its unrealized gains, they'd have to sell stuff to pay for it, etc, but somehow that's not a problem for normal people with a house you get taxed on more and more.

Makes me feel very fortunate we don’t have to pay property tax on our home. I think it went up something like 14% last year and I haven’t even paid attention to it this year.

29% in the last two years for me. If your kids come home from school and tell you a grown man was sitting in on their Earth Science class, don’t mind me. Just getting my money’s worth.

It is going to hit the lower middle class the most, because landlords are going to pass along the extra cost to the renters who have already seen substantial increases in rent. Pair the increasing rent with the real estate investment trusts and property managers buying up all the property they can homeownership is going to seem more out of reach then ever.

It also drives me bonkers that these companies are in the best position to take the tax advantages that we pay for, in the form of subsidies for eco-initiatives historical preservation, subsidized housing among others.

If they really wanted to help the middle classes they wouldn’t charge property taxes on single family primary residences (even if it is limited to property under a million in value) and increase the price on single family residences that are income producing. Unfortunately it wouldn’t stop the cost from going to the renter but it would at least stop punishing the homeowners for the positive development of an area.

So, what new services is your county going to offer for that extra 600 bucks of expenses that you'll be able to utilize?

We're opposites. Mine went up over 20% last year, 3 % this year.

We’re in KW and our assessment is up like 40% YOY

On paper our house has gone up 62% since 2019 which I think is insane.

It was about the same for me up in Hanover. What the hell are they thinking? In the middle of tough economic times, tax the hell out of us. Smart. /s

Mine went up over 60%. When I called they said “we drove by and saw new siding, new windows, and solar panels, and we just assumed you did work on the inside too and based the estimate off of that”. Nice.
