They thought my BF was purposefully trying to intimidate them. Like if you’re talking to someone , of course you’ll stand near them. Like obviously height doesn’t matter but they’re 5”3 and 5”1 and he’s like 6”1 so it was just a really really bad misunderstanding.

You can stay where you are and say « guys please - this isn’t getting solved so can we please drop it ». Was the other guys’ attitude toward you aggressive at all ? You said they peppered you with questions. Is that what your BF reacted to?

You don't need to go right up to someone to tell them it's time to end the debate.

Also, you can just change the subject without telling everyone to stop.

There are certainly friendlier ways to solve the problem. But I don't think what he did was wrong either.
