So to keep this short, I [25M] have decided its best to break up with my [23F] girlfriend. Been together 2 years, living together for 1. She owns the house we live in together, I pay rent. I’ve done my research how to go about breaking up when you live together. So I’ve got that part down, but here’s the problem.

I’ve made my decision, but at the start of next month for her bday she booked us a realllllly nice but realllly expensive ski trip for her bday. She paid for it. (She was left a lot of money from grandparents). I know it would be best to break up with her before the trip, but she got the ski pass and other things in my name that aren’t refundable. I know the right thing would be to just pay my part but I don’t have the type of money she does and can’t just drop that much money on top of having to get my own place with more expensive rent.

What should I do and how should I go about it?

Make your move out plan, then tell her that you care about her and have enjoyed the time together but it just doesn’t feel like a good fit and that you’re moving out on X day.

Do it before the trip. She can invite someone else.

The problem is the ski pass among other things is non refundable and I’m pretty sure you can’t transfer the pass to someone else. Might be the same case with the flight.

That’s really not your problem. She can sort it out. You can pay her back later if you want to. But going on the trip would be wrong unless she wants to have you there as friends.

You bring up a good point. I should probably bring it up to her before the trip and see what she wants me to do. I still love her and definitely don’t want to screw her over. Just realized she’s not who I see myself with for life and it would be better to end it sooner rather than later.
