There’s a handful of hookah bars on Atwells Ave.

Try Saje or Ours, maybe? I’ve honestly never been to one, but they look nice.

Idk if it’s quality but Tel Aviv near the point street bridge is kinda centrally located?

Tea in Sahara is a chill hookah lounge with good food when it’s open. I don’t think they have booze though.

Unfortunately, in my experience, a lot of them are only really hookah bars when the sun is still up and change completely once it is gone

Pvd kinda has a "shady hookah bar" niche. Bring your chainmail vest.

Nearly all hookah lounges in the city are essentially nightclubs that offer hookah. It's a Caribbean Latin trend that was ushered in almost simultaneously with reggaeton and trap music, and has endured for more than a decade. The only daytime hookah place I know of is Tea in Sahara on Governor Street on the East Side.

This was my recommendation, OP.

I pass it every day walking my dog. Nothing shady about it or the people I've ever seen going in and out. (And I think my "shadar" is solid)

I visited Pure Lounge on Atwells a few months back for hookah, it was a good time. A little pretentious but no sketchy vibes. Tel Aviv over by Hot Club is an open air cigar and hookah bar. I'd check out those two.

Nara changed their name to twelve twenty one fyi. They also have free hookah on Mondays, not sure if that’s available the whole night though

If you're looking for a chill vibe hookah bar like what was popular from the early to mid 2000s that's not really popular anymore, for some reason they all turned into all out night clubs, I would never trust being at them in general, nevermind the quality or cleanliness of their hookahs

Genuine question: is it ever open when you walk your dog? I've been there many times and it's always completely random because they don't abide by the listed hours on Google. It seems even less predictable since covid. These days, if I'm in the area I will drive past and get food if it's open, but I seem to have a 20% success rate. I'm usually genuinely surprised to see that it's open and walk in like I don't quite believe it.

It's just worth mentioning to OP how unpredictable the hours are, but is it better in the daytime?

Lots of them on Atwells. I know for a fact Terra Luna Cafe does hookah during the day. The sushi place Mambo Sushi(?) has hookah as well. A lot of the business do, and it’s very safe there as well.
