Got ticketed two nights in a row for parking on the street. Yes I know I know there's permits but I've lived in this apartment for 7 months and had almost no problem with parking overnight. Like are they trying to make end year quota.

You might also have a new snitch on your street. What part of the city do you live live? Overnight parking enforcement is usually only heavily enforced on the east side. Otherwise it was either a slow night and a cop decided to write a bunch of tickets, or some one called and complained and then the whole neighborhood was tagged. My advice, juat get the tag. It takes about 30min and the office is right on Alens ave.

You know there are permits and there are signs stating no overnight parking what's the issue you already know the risk.

I remember getting tagged at least 3x in one year on my street and I'm on the outskirts of the city. Sucked having to pay $20 each time but what can you do.

On some level the parking enforcement is a little random, but I think when they're able to tag a bunch of cars on the same block, they're probably going to make a point to go back to the same streeet/block.

Also possible, there's people living there complaining. I parked on the street for months with no problem in front of my first apartment and on the flip side, every time I went to one friend's house and parked on his street every single time.

Parking enforcement seems like it rotates through neighborhoods in phases. Like they focus on one area for a few weeks then move on to another area. Also the fairly new license plate scanning system means they can process a lot more cars per night.

Ehh....you either got a new parking enforcement going after your area or having someone playing neighborhood watch. Probably wise to move your car around a bit for the next week to see which one it is.

Yep, definitely had that happen too. Like someone else said, someone could be complaining or it could be they just randomly got a few hits on one street and decided to come back and see if people were playing the odds.

If this was the last 2 nights, I'd expect them again tonight.

People get mad if there's a lot of cars, if you're blocking garbage cans,if you're too far out from the curb, if you're too close to a driveway/corner, or if you're just in front of their house.

I get being mad at all of those things except the last one. I don't really get being an adult who tattles on people.

Parking actually only gets ticketed in the neighborhood (per a chat with the police desk) if someone actually calls and complains about - between 1am and 5am. You can’t call outside of those hours to complain about overnighting - they won’t bother. Which leads me to view this as an ill thought out half Oakes money grab rather than any concern with quality of life either way. Someone called the cops that’s why you got a ticket.

On east side - it’s not heavily enforced actually. Only if someone gets on the phone ……. Otherwise zero enforcement (and this is directly from the police themselves when we had someone block our garbage cans for a month. Don’t get me started on why they can’t get to the garbage cans with cars parked like every other city can……)

But they won’t ticket unless you call the providence police number. This is direct quote from the providence police supervisor - unless you call PPD between 1-5am - no one is going to ticket a car. They aren’t driving around all night looking for ticketing oops. It’s purely a dispatched only situation.

Thats an entirely fabricated story. I have lived here long enough to know exactly when parking enforcement is going to hit certain streets. They don't need to be called, and its hilarious you believe the cops when they tell you "blame your neighbors".

Oh puleeze. I’ve had a conversation with the police - on the phone - personally so I’m quoting. And yes I’ve lived here long enough too. You don’t want to believe me call the non emergency number right now and say hey / my neighbor is parking outside my house and it’s a no overnight zone can you give them a ticket? And see what they say. It’s ok we’ll wait…….

You don't need to call for them to ticket. They drive around at night, the parking enforcement has a night shift. Why would they ticket "overnight" cars during the day? You ticket between 2-5, the same time they have for over a decade. No calls need to be made, they will drive through neighborhoods and ticket as desired.

And as we all know, the police are always entirely honest.

Lol blocked because they know Im right. Go figure.

I’m not talking about daytime parking. Overnight parking / go ahead. Call PVD. If there was ticketing just happening, the 3-5 cars that park on our no overnight street would get ticketed at least semi regularly. They don’t. Still waiting for you to call the Pd tho…. I mean they are basically saying they can’t be bothered enforcing the law why would they lie about that? It makes the street residents happy because the no overnight rule is stupid anyway.
