Hello good folks of Providence! I’ll soon be visiting your awesome city and want to bring home some tasty munchies for my fam (and myself, let’s be real). What do you recommend? I’d love to get edible souvenirs that are unique to the city. I’m open to coffee (beans) and tea (leaves) too.
Note: I travel decently light with just carry-on but should have allowance to take a bag of goodies on the way home.

Just fair warning not sure why they said no mess, they are kind of greasy so make sure you pack it well in several plastic bags to protect other contents in your luggage.

If you're flying out of TF Green you can buy Autocrat Syrup and Narragansett beer after security.

There is a little Rhode Island/Providence gift shop at the TF Green Airport (if you fly into there instead of Boston) that has most of the things mentioned in this post. I got some coffee syrup and hot wiener sauce packet as gifts the last time I visited my hometown.
Dave’s and Bolt have a good variety of coffee you can buy. Great stuff. Quonnie is great at Dave’s and Bolt usually has good holiday roasts. Just depends what you like. (Dave’s also sells coffee syrup…unique but like some of the other recs is not always a slam dunk…dels mix is not as good as the real thing).

If I have a free bag to check in I will just bring an empty one just in case to bring stuff back. Usually I fly south west which has two free bags so I put a filled smaller luggage inside a larger one so it's easier to handle.
Autocrat or eclipse coffee syrup is great and has a long shelf life. Some places will also have Dave's Coffee syrup which is also great and made from real sugar instead of corn syrup. Pizza strips should be fine for a flight since they are kept at room temperature anyway, I took some to Seattle once myself. Try Clamcakes while you're here if you like them they sell the mix for the batter so you can make them yourself at home. Biscotti, egg and wine biscuits from local Italian bakeries also travel well.

It's not cake, they're basically pancakes but made out of boiled cornmeal. Way better than it sounds, but you need good butter and real maple syrup to eat them with.
Even better, I love anything with cornmeal.
