Well first off don't expect to get anything close to what you paid for it, engagement rings have a huge markup as they prey on emotions and sentimentalty. All the places around will give you around the same price I found when I tried to sell my brothers ring for him a few years ago. So go to a few and see who gives you the best price. Iirc pawn shops were a bit higher than jewelry stores. If you want to get more of your money back sell it yourself on Craigslist or marketplace, do cash only and meetup at the police station to avoid scammers. But again don't expect to get anything near what you paid for it.

Use "I do now I don't" (.com). I have no affiliation with them whatsoever but I bought the engagement ring for my fiance from them.....it's basically an online marketplace for used engagement rings/jewelery. I was able to contact the seller of the ring I bought, negotiate, and then purchase through the site. IDNID receives the rings from the seller, verifies the authenticity, and if everything is good they ship to the buyer with the official certification (American Geological Institute)

If it’s a mined diamond and not lab grown the resale value will be higher as an FYI

Rhode Island Antiques Mall in Pawtucket has on-staff gem and metal appraisers/buyers a few times a week, and they'll pay you cash for it which is a nice bonus.

Well I hope you’ve been able to move on and start fresh my friend. Good luck with the resale. One of the first steps may be to get it appraised if your original seller never gave you the appraisal papers for insurance.

A friend of mine is a gemologist. When you sell it back to a jewelry store, they usually pay you scrap price for the diamond. They look up the value in a book with a table based on the 4 Cs - Color, Cut, Clarity, Carat.

They then pull it out of the setting, clean it up, and sell it at the retail price. That’s why most jewelry stores give you similar pricing.

I sold mine at Reliable Gold. They gave me more in trade value than they would have for cash.
