“Best food you’ve ever tasted”

Not gonna lie, the Chinese food in RI is the most mid Chinese I’ve had across the country. Obviously I’m talking about “American Chinese.” Tough chicken, rarely tender, pieces cut way too big so the breading/sauce:chicken ratio is all wrong, sauce tastes like ketchup + soy sauce, fried rice that tastes like nothing in particular but is still somehow bad, lo mein tastes like it was cooked fired with motor oil, etc. Not sure what’s up but I always kind thought Chinese food was a solid bet no matter where you went. I’d rather have Panda Express than any of the Chinese food around here.

EDIT: RI lifers mad

Yeah I 100% agree. I’ve tried tons of them and none of them really scratch the itch, even Apsara, which I know is sacrilegious to say around here. I’ve just resolved that I’m probably not getting good Chinese that often around here. Though I’ve had the most luck with Express Panda, they also have days where they’re just off their game. I can’t recall Chinese ever being this hit or miss in other places I’ve lived/spent long periods of time/visit often. It’s gotten to the point where I‘ve just stopped trying new places because I’m tired of paying for such mediocre food.

Mandarin Garden the best fried half chicken combination plates. Ghetto special don't let the bullet holes and bum's scare you off.

All food in RI is mid. Rhodys will tell you that RI has the greatest restaurants you could possibly imagine! Meanwhile, they're hoping you've never imagined anything other than pizza or seafood.

In North Carolina they're always in the same shopping center as a Food-Lion unless they're a standalone restaurant.

Pretty much. And let's not glance over RI's beloved culinary contributions! It includes such gems as clear chowder, cold cheese-less pizza, and flavored milk. lol. That's like if you let 1st graders pick the school lunch menu... But seriously, where are the Caribbean restaurants? German food? French? Russian delis? Where are the Southern BBQ joints!? Obviously I know RI has these places, but you gotta drive to Providence to find'em. And even in Providence they're considered niche, and therefore waaaay overpriced. I once asked a RI local where I could find a nice Greek restaurant. Their suggestion was a pizza joint that also happened to serve gyros. JFC

Providence is the capital city of the state, should it not have the most variety? I know of places that fit or nearly fit all the places you mentioned and are great, and who are you talking to that can't even point you towards Kleo's or Yoleni's? Sounds like you have some poor sources.

Not sure I expect Exeter and Burrilville to be foodie havens, of course you're going to have to go to Providence, with some exception in Newport, Westerly, and the in betweens.

True for every place in the country except the West Coast, not specific to RI.
