any tips on parking in the city? I’m looking at apartments in downtown and federal hill and most don’t include parking spots, and I’ve found private lots charge up to $400/month. Is the city pass any good? Any other recommendations? Thanks!
An Overnight Parking Permit is $100-$200 per year depending on where your car is registered. With that, you can park on the street and not get ticketed.
I'd be careful about that, I got a few parking tickets 7 or 8 years ago and didn't think much of them, especially not about getting more. I remember reading some fine print on the ticket and it had something about being towed or booted after the 5th ticket. I wasn't able to find anything in a cursory Google search, but it's worth it to at least make sure
just be aware you have to be in a building with less than 6 units btw to prevent the issue of mega units without lots taking over the streets.They will check the building with tax records to make sure and if they aren't sure the transportation building sends a rep to check lol.
Not all streets allow overnight parking. Check before you buy one.
Get the yearly city pass because inevitably you’ll need to park on the street from time to time and you don’t want tickets. I’d make sure you have some off street parking if at all possible because of parking bans during snow storms. I had an apartment in Fox Point for years with no off street parking and I had to pay to park in that lot in the jewelry district and walk all the way home and back. Big pain in the ass

Not terribly far but I don’t love having to do that in inclement weather. I was near Brook and Wickenden and had to walk the garage by Brown medical on Eddy. I think it was $25 per day

Yup and with big storms parking bans can last be ke a few days and we might have a few a month so it sucks to not have off street parking. I complained to the city and they literally said “what kind of an apartment doesn’t have parking l?!”

They'll definitely boot cars after 5. It's funny the city doesn't just put a registration/license renewal hold for unpaid tickets.
The only people who'd let tickets linger more than a few years would be people who left the state that you'd probably never collect from anyway.
totally agree - letting residents opt out (67% i think was the amount of no's needed) and then not doing a regular "re"vote is ridiculous.
I'd wonder if there's a mechanism to to undo/change that. I've spent basically the last decade on an included street, surrounded by included streets but if someone went to their city councilor now and tried to get that changed, do they even have a mechanism for it? Has it happened anywhere?
Really, the city should just unilaterally say "if there's parking during the day, there's permit parking at night" and be done with it. Anyone who wants no parked cars allowed on their street can fuck off and move.
Agree! I think this idea that we want our streets to look like suburban NJ with no overnight parking is ridiculous. Our entire street's population (except for us) has turned over completely save 2 properties since then. It makes no sense.

If your at the top of federal hill, Camilles rents parking spots for $50 a month!
I’ve also lived on federal hill for 2 years, have parked on the street the whole time and have only been ticketed 4 times 🤷🏽♀️
