I agree, it's still a little awkward. But do you know why the merge has to be so abrupt?
beerspeaks t1_irvslr2 wrote
If you have your own lane, it's not a merge.
And it's abrupt because it's temporary and they have limited space to work with. A major highway should not be passing immediately through the middle of a city.

Good answer, you win. Your so smart. But you didn't explain why there is limited space.

Yes I did.

tads73 OP t1_irvwt5i wrote
No you didn't. The answer is, it has to cut abruptly because the lane of travel has to terminate prior to entering the footprint of the old bridge. This portion of the roadway is set for demolition. I don't understand what you mean by not passing through the middle of the city part. Although I agree, the project has nothing to do with moving the highway away from the city.

Probably a civil engineer interjecting some irreverent comedy into their work, like a “life comes at you fast” type road metaphor.

The exit must terminate prior to the old bridge set for demolition. They should have built the 95n on ramp at Broadway.

Everyone's complaining now but when the project is done it will (probably) turn out fine

What are they doing? I thought they were just updating the bridges.
Hot_Introduction_270 t1_iryi90g wrote
They are redoing all the on and off ramps to cutdown on congestion like where going north where the route 6 and downtown traffic are trying to get on and others are trying to get over to 146.
You will still have i95 south/route 146 merge that will never be fixed
Jerkeyjoe t1_irwol3w wrote
I'm not completely following it but it's been a years long process to replace the viaduct. They built a brand new one along side the old so that to minimize disruptions. So yes it's just a replacement but in the process there will be temporary traffic patterns untill the structures are finalized.

I admire the project, but not every aspect, like this on ramp.

OP: this thread isn't going how you thought it would, is it?
In all honesty, just avoid the area if you can. It's a dedicated lane, so there's enough time to appropriately merge with traffic without needing the change your underwear afterwards.
Proof-Variation7005 t1_irwmiq9 wrote
I've only used it a couple of times but I think it's a little easier than it has been in the past to go north. Really, the only variable that still exists and is annoy are the psychos already on the highway who are trying to cut over to the right for the 146/statehouse exit and their complete and total lack of chill.
DrewADesign t1_irwyhec wrote
I agree. Having your own lane it's totally fine. It can get a bit hairy merging away from the 146 exit in heavier traffic but this doesn't make it worse. It's always been like that.

Your right, temporary for 2 years. Try harder next time.

Better than the exit in Warwick that has no merge and a full on stop, so you have to gun it to get on the highway and not die. This exit is not that bad.

Well, it's not a competition. Which exit in Warwick?

With how many shitty cars there are in this city that can’t accelerate from 0-60 in regular time this is totally fine.
It’s that or the car can drive that fast and the driver is just too stupid too.

Whatever company is doing the signage for this construction is fucking trash I'll tell you that. Love the "2 left lanes closed ahead" sign and yet the 2 left lanes haven't been closed for awhile. Then my favorite was taking a detour and following the signs that resulted in an endless loop.

Not sure what the issue is. You get your own lane, it’s not like you are merging, traffic is rarely moving at high speeds there.
