My daughter and some friends were at Fish Co and they were frisked without warning or being given a reason for it. Is this the usual procedure nowadays? We thought it was pretty outrageous.

This is interesting I work in a club and since all of the mass shootings/hate crimes/the general climate of the world they now pat-down all patrons day-and-night. Even regular clientele, and I know of several businesses that hired security specifically to pat-down patrons so I'm curious if maybe fish co has began this as well.

Edited to add: stabbing at Club in Prov

Also edited to add I was told that any place with a liquor license and a capacity of 60 or more patrons has to frisk anyone entering. If you're randomly frisked on the floor then it's an issue or if a male searched a woman that's a problem.

Is this only a Providence thing? Because I’ve been places in the state with more than 60 people and haven’t been frisked.

They work Club security in Providence so that's how I know. Not sure about other cities*

Obviously so since I said they work in Providence don't you think that would mean that I don't know?

I'm sure you meant to say, "sorry to overestimate your depth of knowledge on the city's liquor license regulations" because merely knowing information doesn't make one intelligent.

This is r/providence not r/rhodeisland

Not sure about Fish Co but I've been pat down off and on at clubs and venues over the last 6 months I'm assuming due to all the threats and mass shootings and what not. Could be similar reasoning or they had an incident that prompted it.

“Without warning” they were asked to stop, and frisked. I’m a small dude, and anytime I’ve gone to a bar/club in the past 12 years that has a rather large crowd - I get frisked as well. Or the security guard gives me and ocular patdown and asses that I’m not a threat. Honestly they were probably looking for alcohol nips.

It’s standard, but most places don’t frisk women.

There have been 100 mass shootings in the US since the beginning of 2023.

It’s normal for Fish Co.

There are a few places in the city that will frisk you on the way in (exception not the rule) and typically they provide security of same sex to do it. The women will have their handbag checked quickly, and usually their frisk doesn’t amount to much because they’re dressed for the club.

It’s annoying but the places that bother with it see fights occur pretty often so I understand why they do it.

If they were insisting male security frisk her or something I’d get why you’d be upset and that would also make me pretty sus about it.

Edit: Frisked on the way in right? Or are you saying after they already entered?

I feel it's good to avoid places where frisking is even remotely necessary

I know someone who works downtown at a club. No frisking takes place.

I've been to ego and was frisked very personally and I'd even say with vigor.

Kinda liked it, ngl

But that's the only place I've been frisked.

What do you mean "without warning" or given no reason? Was it after they had entered/been admitted? I mean it's pretty standard procedure to check people at the door to these nightspots, for obvious reasons.

It's invasive but I'm glad they do it. I mean, I don't think anyone likes it being done to them but who wouldn't want it done to people you don't know.

Edited to add: This is why frisking is good. To avoid this:
