Every city I have ever lived in listed the buses and where they went. Whenever they did a service change, which honestly don't happen that often in terms of stops being taken off a route or a bus line being cancelled, they would put a sticker over it.

Before the app, there were (and possibly could still exist) transit maps you could get at convenience stores and gas stations for free. Then they went online and you could pick your route that way. Now there’s the app. Way back in the day, the bus stop sign was a blue and yellow banner wrapped around a telephone pole. My guess is that most people used to use it purely to get into the city for work and everyone got dropped at Kennedy Plaza. You could get all the information you needed back then at the kiosk. Rhode Island is dreadfully slow when it comes to change.
